I bet the producers will try to stick it in Midtown, but I think it would be a great fit at the Lortel.

I would love to see this! Too bad they took the tent down on West 45th Street where the Great Comet was playing. That would have been a great location/venue!
"but I think it would be a great fit at the Lortel."
The Lortel is only available to rent by not-for-profit companies so to use it they would have to co-produce it as a limited run with one of the non-profits in the city. That could be the route they want to take, of course, in which case I would agree it would be a good space for the show.
I have not seen the show, but I think with such an earthy feeling show, I wouldn't stick it in New World Stages. I don't really think "period" type shows would do very well there.

That I did not know. Interesting.

Earthy? I'm not sure what you mean. Fats Waller was very much an urban writer and most of the references to place in the show refer to New York City.
And though you are correct, I've never really thought of it as a "period" show. There are so many standards in it, it feels timeless.
Do you have the 2-CD recording? It has pretty much the entire show. (There may also be a DVD as a truncated version was performed on PBS.)
There is also a 1-cd version of the production which the Pointer Sisters starred in.

It's part of the summer season at Bucks County Playhouse and the production is being directed by Hunter Foster. Seems like it could be a prelude to off Broadway?
It seems as if Maltby wants to move the Delaware Theatre Company production in tact though, based on the way this article reads, which would mean Foster's production at Bucks County would stay right where it was.
If you are an American Musical Theater fan, the original Broadway cast cd needs to be in your collection. It's a great revue and the music is wonderful.

Nell Carter sings "Mean To Me" as if it were written specifically for her. Link

It would be nice if the TV broadcast version of the show with the original cast was available as a DVD. I seem to recall that they bumped Nell Carter up to star billing based on her sitcom fame, but other than that it was the same show.
