Apparently Annette Bening is in talks to play Goneril in KING LEAR during Shakespeare in the Park. An odd choice since Lithgow is 68 and Bening is 55. I'm not the most familiar with LEAR but Goneril doesn't seem like Bening's age to me.
Anyone with more knowledge of the play have better insight? BWW Link

As I'd go see her read the phonebook, I think she'd rock this role despite her age. Gonerill is the oldest of the daughters so age might not be too much of an issue. Either way, she's a brilliant actress.
Sure, she's supposed to be the oldest daughter but she shouldn't be nearly the same age as Lear. Also, who would they cast as Cordelia, who is supposed to be very young?
A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.
I still think Goop would make a terrific Goneril. Or Regan.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I'm surprised there's been no chatter about this since Bening was officially announced...with Jessica Hecht no less!
I've wanted to see Bening on stage for some time now, but haven't been able to get to LA for the few shows she's done there. Incredibly excited about this! I wonder if her (...or Lithgow's name for that matter) will make this a really big draw.
Lear is supposed to be in his 80s. Therefore, Goneril should be in her 50s. Usually it is an older actress that plays that role, so, technically Bening is perfect for it, physically.
