Visiting NY next week and would like to try for SRO tix. Was there in January and spent two hours in 2* weather to be told at 10 that they weren't selling any. Has anyone tried the rush lately, have tix been available when the box office opens or is it more during the day. Still angry that the box office staff was nice and warm inside (we saw them) while we froze for two hours when they knew they didn't have any to sell. Dont want to do that again if possible.

Do you mean rush or standing room?

Standing room only happens when a show is completely sold out. So, if Matilda isn't selling out 100% of the house when you attend, there won't be standing room, since there are seats available.

As for rush, Matilda no longer has one, as they switched to a lottery system. With a minimum of 20 tickets per show. So, no lining up required.

I saw Matilda about a week ago. We tried the lottery and didn't win. They actually had more lottery tickets than usual, it was about 26 or 28 instead of 20. They also offered us $42 lottery loser tickets in the orchestra. Great deal. But this was on a Wednesday evening.

I've had the experience too where they won't sell SRO if the show isn't sold out. But you might be able to luck out with the lottery or a lottery loser deal.

Thanks for the info, I did mean SRO (not rush). As for the Lottery Loser deal, did you happen to hear if they were doing that for all days or just Wednesdays?

SRO isn't too hard to sort out, then. Just go on telecharge and see how many seats are still available the night before the show. If there look to be a lot, there won't be any standing room. You can even check it throughout the day to gauge when to go down.

Too late now, but I would have tracked attendance in that way a week before going to gauge likelihood.

I think it just depends on how well they're sold for that night- it's a day by day thing.

On Telecharge, is there an easier way to see (quickly) how many seats they may have to sell on a given day? Looks like you have to go through the whole buying process, by price, by location, etc. and then back again for another section (hope that makes sense). Doesn't seem like a quick way to check in during the day. If so, how would I do it?

If you use the pick your own seats option, you can see the seats available and then click between orchestra, mezz, and balcony once you're there. But yeah, you do have to at least start the buying process. That's kind of their goal. Matilda SRO?

There is NEVER any standing room on Tues-Thursday...but when I have been there on the weekends, there usually has been..so far.

We got lottery loser seats for $40 on a Friday night in February and again at a Saturday matinee in March. I think their availability depends on how well the show is selling, and when we talked to a couple actors after the show they said that it was a brand new policy when we went in February.

Do you think there is any way to find out before hand if they will offer the lottery loser tix?

I doubt so. They didn't announce it until they had drawn most of the names already at lottery. I'm sure they wouldn't mind you asking before entering, but they might not have an answer for you.

The past few weekends they have not been offering Lotto Loser seats, and have been saying they will be selling SRO, but I don't believe they actually ended up doing so. I've had luck with the Lotto loser seats on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the rear mezzanine or rear orchestra.

BUMP- anyone know when the standing room seats for a weekend performance are released? Is it whenever the show becomes sold out?

I think it totally varies with the day. I have been there when the box office opens and standing room is sold out by 10:30 am. This happens only on a weekend as far as I can tell (but not usually). I am sorry, I don't have any idea if they sell standing room on an earlier day.

Most other days, you hear about it at the lottery which is held two hours before. The lottery people will announce that either there will be NO standing room that day...OR...the standing room line will start in the lobby after the lottery is held....OR...there is a good chance for standing room, if you are willing to wait around.

I am sure that was not helpful at all..
