^ I don't think that's odd. Most people are considerate of other people's feelings. Blocking is just for those few who see hiding behind their computer an opportunity to vent their darker side.

I was close to blocking a user named Liza's Headband. This poster interrogated me through private messaging and kept asking me who I was before this account. Some message board welcome that was. This user then proceeded to give a pity party for themselves and went on about how he/she is hated by the "Broadway Bullies" (whoever they are). I took it in stride and kindly responded back and the person didn't even have the decency to write me back after the kooky message.
I agree. I blocked only one poster in the past, and that wasn't so much because of her opinions, idiotic though I found them, but because she simply took over every thread she was in.

And now she has a new screen name and is trying to be a "normal" member of the BWW community.
