The problem is, bryan, is that they're expensive. And producers don't allot money in their budgets for them. I think an extra $250,000 to $300,000 is chump change in a 12-14 million dollar budget, and believe very strongly that Broadway producers ought to budget cast albums in their budgets as valuable promotional and marketing materials. (Aside from preserving good scores and getting people to produce new shows in the U.S. and world wide.) In the case of Off-Broadway productions, they're just damned expensive and there's not enough money to go around there anyway.
Speaking of hurrying up, FUN HOME's release cannot come soon enough. I keep humming "At the light, and at the light" and "telephone wire" like a mental case all the time. Long live PS Classics!
You said it! I want Fun Home yesterday! Do you happen to know, if we pre-order online at the PS Classics website, will we get the CD earlier than the regular release?
Beyond the cost, I wonder if After Midnight's delay also has something to do with the unique casting? Perhaps they'll make a recording with all of the rotating "guest stars"? Whatever happens, it would be a mistake to make the recording without Fantasia.
Macnyc, generally when you preorder from PS Classics' website the CD ships about two weeks before official release. Of course this isn't guaranteed, just has been the case in my experiences
The economics of this are interesting jv92, it must be possible to make money on the recording above a certain level of sales?
Personally, I'd be very happy with more live, rather than studio, recordings of OCRs on CD, now that they can be done to such a technically high standard.
I would say it, but the Germans are very good at this. The recent live recording CD of the Stuttgart Rebecca sounds absolutely stunning.
Why don't you go? Why don't you leave Manderley? He doesn't need you... he's got his memories. He doesn't love you, he wants to be alone again with her. You've nothing to stay for. You've nothing to live for really, have you?
