Begins tomorrow. Is anyone going? Also does anyone know if the CSC rush policy still applies even though the show is at Abrons Art Center?

ETA: Thought it was tonight. Whoops.

Clyde-I think it starts TOMORROW, the 14th. (See link-it's the 14th.)

I also wanted to know about the rush and the venue-I've never been in there myself.

They don't say if it's cash only. (Ah well I'll assume it is.) I'm very happy as it's 2 per person as well. Can't wait to see it!

I saw the show last night. While I felt that the ground work was brilliantly laid out, the performance style they were going for (Lecoq meets Grotowski) takes a much more detailed rehearsal process than the show seemed to have. What has been framed as (and has the potential to be) a carefully constructed piece of physical theatre came across as a review with oddly chosen musical numbers which was clearly not the intention of the creative team. my hope is they get it together before they open.

What is the running time? I do not see it listed on their web site.

Their web site calls this a "workshop presentation" so perhaps it is not being reviewed? Perhaps they will restage it in the 2014-2015 season as a full production?

I have only a limited opportunity to see this before going home for Xmas. The show seems very well sold so I'm wondering if anyone has had luck with rush tickets.

Clyde-Get to the show-by hook or by crook. I highly recommend it. I went on the blizzard day (Sat.) and easily got two tickets for that evening's performance-lovely box office staff. It is really incredible. (Taylor Mac is incredible, as is Mandy Patinkin, and I love the concept. It's really an experience to take in.)

Well if the resident celebrity is telling me to go then I guess I should check it out. Was going to attempt it tonight and I imagine there would be cancellation tickets since people aren't trying to trek all the way out there (hell, I barely want to).

Clyde-you do me too much honor with that sobriquet. I did not seek any fame and my posts never solicit it freely.

While I will concede it needs a little work, it is a joy to watch both of these men on stage. Taylor Mac is truly a brilliant performer and he seems to get so much joy out of performing that it is infectious. (He has a very natural talent.) I will be interested to hear your impressions.

FYI: If you have a tdf.org membership they currently have tickets available for tomorrows 3pm & 8pm performance. Tickets are $31.50 a piece. I'm going to give it a shot since I'll be in the city.

I did end up seeing the show on Tues night. Can't say that I have as strong an opinion as dreaming but thought it was an enjoyable evening. In all honesty, I would have been fine without seeing it. Certainly wouldn't pay more than $30 for it.

Taylor Mac was actually the standout here. There were times where he would begin singing a song and when Mandy joined in it became less enjoyable. This was my first time seeing Taylor Mac and now I'll do everything I can to see him again.

The song choices were mostly unknown to me and there were definite high points of lesser known songs from artists I'm familiar with. I think giving out the song list is a bit of a spoiler so I'll refrain from that but I will say there is a brilliant usage of a Patty Griffin song that was my favorite of the evening.

One note about spoiling the song list. The theatre didn't give out the program until after the show which I appreciated since I knew people would be referring back to it throughout to see what a certain song was. I seemed to be the only one OK with this decision. You would have thought the ushers were telling people they wouldn't be allowed to see their first born with the amount of chagrin not being given a program before the show was met with.

Actually, I don't think it did.  I originally had tix for the 10th, and that weekend was cancelled.  I'm not going until the 22nd now.  CSC's LAST TWO PEOPLE ON EARTH

I saw this in Texas a couple months ago.  It was quite fun.  Mandy Patinkin was in fine voice .... his booming voice carried like a fog horn through the small theatre.  Despite being so impressive, Patinkin was actually the weak link for me and the other two people I was with.

Taylor Mac is a star.  He is such a physical presence .... you really couldn't take your eyes off of his subtle body movements and expressive facial gestures.  I came out a big Taylor Mac fan.

It is obviously a small production, and a little quirky ... but I recommend the show. There was one song that was incredibly racially and ethnically charged .... yes it was kind of integral to the act, but I think most people in the audience were upset/offended/surprised by it to some degree.  I was not personally insulted by the song, but I found it to be offensive in general.  I wonder if they kept that song for ART?

Saw this yesterday at the ART.  Never seen Taylor Mac in anything, only seen Patinkin on TV.  It was a good show, but nothing special.  They definitely have chemistry, and they sing the songs well (and do some nifty dancing, too), but the attempt at a story about global warming is quite weak.

It was fun to see the old Eddie Lawrence "The Old Philosopher" bit done again, my wife had no idea how I knew the line "never give up, never give up, never give up . . . that ship" was coming up, but not much else noteworthy.

Ignore claims of 90 minutes, bunky.  Show started at 5-10 past and was done by 15 past the next hour.

They did. I saw it tonight. I didn't find that song integral at all. It was just racist.

I loved the dancing in this show but not really anything else. I bought my ticket because I figured I'd never have another chance to see Mandy Patinkin sing live, but weirdly I had the experience I had with the Les Mis movie, where I knew that the people singing (not everyone in the Les Mis movie but at least some people) had beautiful voices, yet somehow I didn't find beauty in the music/singing.

I disliked the har-dee-har-har / we're-not-gay assurances that ran through the show. And I found the characterization incohesive. But mainly I wanted the music to sweep me away, as it does so often with live musicals. Maybe my fault for thinking it would be more of a musical. "Vaudeville" is in the subtitle; I wonder if that was the difference.

Yes, it is a vaudeville, through and through.  Such a different style than most are familiar with.  I know, for me, I've only known about vaudeville academically and from whatever bits might show up in movies and such, so this was beautifully revealing to me.

I saw it a week ago and loved it.  I found both men to be riveting, and even though I'm a huge Mandy fan, I was really impressed with Taylor Mac.

I know lots of people here dislike Paulus, but it is amazing what she has done at the ART.   I've yet to see a show there that isn't either completely or nearly sold out.  The audience is a beautiful mix of ages, from families to young adults all the way to the blue hairs.  I don't get to their other venue nearly enough, but hope to change that. The variety of shows and performers she brings in is wonderfully appealing.  Can't wait for next season.

Saw this at the Henrey Street Settlement House last year and it was worth the effort of finding the place. I was surprised when nothing like a Playbill was provided, only a song list  at the end. I was told that was because it was a 'workshop'. This type of show is not normally my cup of tea, but I did find it very compelling and touchingly human.

"I think most people in the audience were upset/offended/surprised by it to some degree…"

How could you possibly know that?  Obviously it served a purpose in the show.

I saw it at ART the other night mostly because I loved Taylor Mac's The Lily's Revenge more than I can say.  I'm glad I saw it.  The show was sold out and people at the box office were begging for standing room.  Apparently a strong Times review still sells tickets out of town.

Mandy still has a great deal of beauty in his voice.

Taylor Mac is a phenomenal performer and anything he does is worth seeing.

There is exactly one ticket left for the five remaining Cambridge performances.  And it's Saturday night at 7:30.
