Category placement has nothing to do with status. Chita Rivera's has had more supporting nominations than leading. It all has to do with where people could win. leading actress in a musical is such a huge category this year that anything other than doing everything they can to squeeze Marin Mazzie into featured would be boneheaded.

As for after midnight, most tony nominators will not consider it a respectable piece as a musical. It is a stunning dance piece however and should be rewarded justly. However, the road producers that are voters aren't nominators and therefor it won't be nominated

These are my predictions for the musical categories. I'm going to hold off on plays because there are so many that still have to open that haven't had sufficient out of town tryouts yet. Though many consider "Glass Menagerie" and "Twelfth Night" already to good to beat.

I haven't read so many raves for a performance in ANY season as those I've read for Jessie Mueller. She's a shoo in to win Best Actress and I wouldn't be surprised if the word of mouth building up around the whole show "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" also works to dispel the mixed reception critics gave the show. Everywhere I go, people are raving about it. IT's one of the biggest celeb drawers as well -Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson were there earlier this week.

I'm not sure if Aladdin is going to be eligible for Original Score knowing it'll have songs from the movie, songs that were cut, some brand new ones, it all depends on how much of the score the committee is going to consider 'original'.

I also really don't know if the committee will show that much love for Big Fish knowing it got mixed reviews, and a disappointing run, Great Cast Recording though. The success of Bridges is also questionable at this point, knowing that audiences have ether loved it, or were bored by it, even the box office success is also questionable.

And please keep in mind that whenever a big celebrity stars in musical on Broadway, they normally get snubbed, so we'll have to wait and see about Zach Braff and Michelle Williams.

So in any case, here are my current predictions!

Best Lead Actress in a Musical:
Sutton Foster-Violet
Idina Menzel-If/Then
Jessie Mueller-Beautiful
Kelli O'Hara-The Bridges of Madison County
Michelle Williams in Cabaret

Possible Spoiler: Mary Bridget Davies-A Night with Janis Joplin

Best Featured Actor in a Musical:
Danny Burstein-Cabaret

"It all has to do with where people could win. leading actress in a musical is such a huge category this year that anything other than doing everything they can to squeeze Marin Mazzie into featured would be boneheaded."

Only on Broadway can boneheaded sometimes be a synonym for intellectually honest. (I"m still not over the idea of Blair Brown winning a featured tony for Copenhagen, a play with three characters uninterruptedly on stage and in which she was the only woman),

Just a correction: it's Joshua Henry, not Colman Domingo in Violet.

I like your imperturbable perspicacity.

On, After Midnight, being nominated in the Best Musical category... Lets not forget that, Ain't Misbehaving, won a Tony for Best Musical. I am not sure if, After Midnight, will - or won't - be nominated, but I do know that it qualifies.

Any material that is present in the ALADDIN musical adaptation that was not present in the film, regardless of when it was written, should and will more than likely be considered new.

No Disney score has ever been denied eligibility and I don't see them starting now.

With Aladdin getting better reviews than Rocky and Bridges does anyone think it will get a tony nomination?

I think its going to be
Bullets, If/Then, After Midnight and Gentleman's

I think Aladdin is going to be the Dark Horse but I love Disney thoughts?

Also I think no one thought it would get any positive reviews at all. and now it has I think the musical will do even better Updated On: 3/25/14 at 06:39 AM

I wouldn't say Aladdin got better reviews than Bridges.

While I've seen many of the season's musicals, admittedly I've seen few plays. But even so, it's hard to imagine Bryan Cranston not winning for best lead actor in a play. His LBJ was mind-blowing. Hope to see it again next month.

Not overly interested in predicting Tonys, but I do enjoy that the thread started in November with "Not looking great so far. Can anyone make some sense of the season?" and now people are arguing which shows they love can even make the list.

Now t/d/b/a haterobics on here.

Im so bad at these. I will think it a bit yawn if the big wigs are all nominated. Sutton again? boring. just my HO.

BUT, have seen "bullets" (next weds) can someone clarify is Marin Mazzie is actually featured in this? just out of curiosity.

So - do you push for Mazzie in featured and potenitally put her up for a loss with Helene Yorke?

Since every show besides Cripple has started previews, is anyone ready to start making some more well educated guesses? I personally have a few more to see before I give my input.
