Can't wait to see the cast list. I know Daisy Hobbs, of the Memphis tour, is in the ensemble, so since she was in the 5th Ave incarnation, that would lead me to believe she isn't the only one who is moving with the show.
I just don't get why people get hung up on the race of the performers. If they are singing and acting their hearts out on stage, I'm NOT thinking about their race either before or after the show... and probably not until someone else brings up the issue.
Robin Williams as the Genie is never going to happen, he has a show that's coming on CBS already getting a good amount of buzz and practically headed for a full season pick up.
Not a lead, but someone who will be in the ensemble left a Broadway production this last week to go into rehearsals soon. Don't know if they are taking a break before they start tho.
Only posting this much because one of their recent castmates spilled the beans on facebook.
I'd love to see Robin de Jesus as Aladdin. He was adorably hysterical as the houseboy in La Cage, and I think he would bring that same energy into this role. He's a two time Tony nominee, and a good shot to finally snag an award.
The girl who was the dance captain in Rock of Ages just left to join Aladdin. Multiple people from the 5th Avenue production are confirmed to be in the production including ensemble members. Also leaving for NYC from Seattle to join rehearsals are Brandon O'Neill who played Kassim in the 5th Avenue version, and Don Darryl Rivera who played Iago. James Monroe Iglehart will be the Genie. Its rumored that another Seattle local is the Genie understudy.
I know Robin played the role before, just didn't remember where or when. When I first heard that, it just seemed like a natural fit. I still hope he gets it. Thanks Justin.
I wonder if the Genie will be blue like in the movie? I would assume so considering this production is obviously bigger budget than the Seattle production.
I'm still curious to know whether we'll see Andrew Keenan Bolger in the show? Any other casting rumours?
YoungerBrother, I would imagine that Andrew would be involved with Aladdin. I've heard that it is just a larger and better recreation of the Seattle production and since Tuck is stalled, I would imagine so.
