I am a member of Theatermania's gold club. I have recently found out a bout Play by Play.. another discount sight. I am trying to ascertain if it's worth joining both sights.
What Broadway stuff has play by play had their recently? what are the listings currently on Play by Play that don't appear on theatermania's gold club. If I knew the current list, both Broadway and off.....I can make an educated decision.
You're not supposed to publicize what they offer, but I can say Broadway offerings since my last renewal have been near nil, except for Actors Fund performances that require a $40 fee. I can get Broadway tickets through TDF for that price with much more date flexibility and a third of the annual fee.
Pretty much all of Play-by-Play's offerings for the past year are off-off Broadway, some off-Broadway (not a lot anyone would be very interested in) with the majority of listings cabaret/music acts that require a food/drink minimum. When Play By Play does have something good they have such a small amount of tickets that it's impossible to get any of them. I've heard Theatremania has become the best papering service again, so I'm thinking of signing up with them again.
Sad to hear this. I had to quit Audience Extras because of the same reason. When I first joined, I could get four or five Broadway shows a year and scored really well with major off-Broadway shows such as the Public Theatre. By the time I quit, all they were offering were amateur productions at Producers Club.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
Theatermania has the Goldclub and then discounts similar to Broadway Box or Playbill. Studentrush.org sometimes has Broadway - Scandalous was widely available there, so you can get a ticket for the fee without paying the $99 per year, but not as much availability as TM.
Thanks Jordan and Mamaleh, I was ready to sign up! I will continue with the constant refreshing of the page to see what pops up, or find a student friend who's eager to share the rush!
I've had better luck with Play by Play than Theatremania over the past 3-4 months, but the only broadway things I've been able to get have been non-profit productions. I've been able to get three shows - two plays, one musical - on Broadway since September, but as mentioned, they go quick. I've missed out on a few because I wasn't fast enough. That happens on Theatremania too, though.
