The majority of people who post here are here because they love Broadway; The acting, the dancing, the costumes, the sets, and of course the music. But what I want to know is, who are some of your favorite singers or bands besides Patti LuPone.

I'll start:
1. Gillian Welch
2. The Roches
3. M. J. Blige
4. Adriana Calcanhoto
5. Cat Power

I love finding new music, so this thread may be a little selfish on my part...

Really? I would have pegged you for more of a hip-hop kinda person. Azealia Lupone, Patti Elliot...that kind of stuff.

Jordan, I had no idea! How did that one slip by me. Very excited now.

I've been listening to fun.'s album a lot. Gotye's is very good, too.

All time favorites include Liz Phair, Fiona Apple, The Mamas and the Papas and the Supremes.

You really like Nana, Eric? I love her. Saw her live. Goddess.

Aside from all the gay cliches, other music I enjoy includes Josh Ritter, Springsteen, The Killers, Bjork, Sigur Ros, Kate Bush, Janelle Monae, The Noisettes, Fiona Apple and many more.

I've been listening to a lot of Dave Brubeck lately.

I grew up with mom playing her, so she's definitely a part of my musical background, but I can't say I've played her anytime in... quite a few years.

I admit, when it comes to pop music my taste is fairly cliche and gay--I'm really into 60s pop: nearly anything from Bacharach/David in that era, The Zombies (my fave British Invasion band--screw The Beatles--OK I like them too), Motown, the bossa stuff that was starting to be everywhere. And I'm a huge disco fanatic--Donna Summer was probably my fave singer vocally, and Ilike nearly everything her producer Giorgio Moroder did, often the more obscure acts were more experimental. From acts that at least started in the 80s when I was born I guess I still have a soft spot for again, the usual--Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Madonna, cheezy Stock/Aitken/Waterman produced pop (including Kylie Minogue, probably my top gay diva), Trevor Horn produced synth pop, bla bla.

Most current bands I listen to have been mentioned--The Killers, Janelle Monae (who I got to see in an intimate show last month as part of the jazz festival here), I like a lot of cheesy pop/dance but tend to follow producers and search oth what songs they did where, rather than the singers who are fairly mutually interchangeable to me (I'm talking about women like Pink, Katy perry, bla bla)--Kylie excepted.

Leonard Cohen was one of my tope choices--prob him and Sondheim, when I was a teen, but I admit I don't listen to him as much now (I think it reminds me of being a depressed teen...). But I did see his current tour which was, as always, brilliant--my 7th time seeing him live.

Eric, are you seeing the just-launched Old Ideas tour?

Early word is it surpasses his last, which was fairly mind-blowing.

I read he played nearly 4 hours in Ghent.

I'm seeing it at the Garden just before Christmas and am beside myself.

Yeah, Nana was childhood background noise for me too, but I once I'm hooked I tend to stay loyal...it's time to give Passport another spin.

And I'm seeing Leonard on September 15th! First time, can't wait!

Also, I love Soul Coughing, Radiohead, the Beatles, Rufus Wainwright, Roy Orbison, Minus Story, Tom Waits, The Decemberists, Eminem, Mama Cass, and anytime Eric Clapton plays jazz.

Tom Waits!

Yes, I'm seeing the Old IDeas tour in mid Nov in Vancouver. I can't wait--I haven't seen him play a large venue in a while, but it's usually a completely different show--still great. (I saw him earlier this year in Montreal play a short promo gig). Jay-Lerner, you should enjoy! Are you seeing him in Dublin? What kind of venue is the Museum of Modern Art? (When I spent several months there ten years back, I'm pretty sure none of the concerts were held there).

(To be honest I first knew Leonard Cohen as a very small kid--Jennifer Warnes' cover album of his stuff was played probably constantly it seemed at my parents' house till I was at least 8--I know they always refered to it as Jenny Does Lenny, even though they played Cohen's own recordings too. I haven't been much of a fan of Warnes other stuff, though she has a strong voice, but am seeing her play a small concert here in Victoria in a few weeks and i hope she does sing some Cohen).

Yes, I'm seeing him in Dublin. I spent most of the summer in Ireland, and will be back next month for a little while which neatly ties in with his shows. I'm not sure about the venue - apparently it's got a good quirky bohemian atmosphere, so I'm sure 'twill be fab.
