I doubt this would ever happen, but THE HOURS feels like a unique situation where the Met could conceivably transfer an opera production to Broadway –– either produced by the Met, or with the assist of a commercial partner. The story and production are intimate enough that they could work totally fine in a Bway house, and would probably be better served than the cavernous Met.
I know they moved heaven and earth to get the 3 divas schedules to align and bring it back to the Met in 2023-24, but securing Joyce and Renee for 5+ months on Bway would be a bigger challenge.
Of course, if Joyce couldn't do Broadway, Audra would be sublime as Virginia (or Clarissa)...Renee, Audra, Kelli would be quite an EVENT on Broadway. But that's just dreaming...
Does anyone know if we'll be getting a studio recording? I've been listening to the audio ripped from the radio broadcast but would give an arm for a professional recording of this music
Saw this tonight at the Met. It’s WONDERFUL! Haunting and beautiful, the story, the score, the orchestra, performances, choreography, the visuals all fantastic. It’s my favorite thing I’ve seen at the met. My one thing is that I wanted Kelli to have more meat to her voice. All the mixing or even belting she’s done on broadway has not been good for the soprano. Renee and Joyce outshined her. But all three gave gorgeous performances. That score is just sensational. Fabulous evening!
I wasn’t able to see their original run, so I saw it as soon as I could this time around. So happy it’s with the same women. It is stunning, I can’t stop thinking about it. All of the interwoven stories, there’s nothing like it. I’m loving all of these complex, three dimensional female characters we are getting on stage. It all feels real and raw. I’d highly recommend going if you haven’t seen it.
