I went to see it last night, on a whim, because I work right down the street from the playhouse. My parents had seen it last week, and adored it (my dad doesn't love many musicals, South Pacific being one of maybe three or so) and both were adamant that I go before it leaves.

It was fantastic, on all accounts. Most of the performers had been in the national tour of the Lincoln Center's production so it wasn't a surprise that they would all be so on point. In particular, I enjoyed Branch Fields as Emile de Becque. I've seen South Pacific before at another theatre, and the guy playing Emile was okay, nothing too special. Pretty much every note that came out of Mr. Fields had me wanting to cry. (And he managed to do that with the reprise of "Some Enchanted Evening" and "This Nearly Was Mine"). I enjoyed Jennie Sophia a lot too, as Nellie. Christine Toy Johnson was a hoot as Bloody Mary, and the male ensemble nearly stole the show with "There Ain't Nothing Like A Dame!"

Has anyone gotten a chance to see it yet? It's only going to be playing until the 15th of this month, so if you're up here in Maine, try to get a seat. I was lucky enough to get a single seat last night (it was very full, and understandably so).

I just realized that typo! :) I was typing so quickly because I was so excited to talk about the show.

I've not seen this, and haven't got it scheduled to see it. But I have been to the Ogunquit Playhouse several times, and their productions are fabulous. I'm seeing "Damn Yankees" there next month.
