I'm thinking about seeing this. If it's anywhere near as bad as Desire Under the Elms, at least there are three (!) intermission opportunities to sneak out. But I don't know if I can make it through 4 hours and 45 minutes of O'Neill dreariness. And Robert Falls is so inconsistent, I just never know if I want to spend the money. When he's good, he's great. But boy, when he's bad, I'm pissed.

I'm seeing this a week from Sunday. I got my tickets early, which is a good thing because many performances have sold out. I often do 10tix for shows at the Goodman, but this one seems like it would be particularly hard to get. I'll share my thoughts here for those who are interested.
I was there tonight for Opening, what a fantastic production!! If you're in Chicago, its definitely worth checking out, alot of the ensemble is giving World Class Performances, and although the show is long(Almost 5 hrs in total) some of the performances are well worth it. Reading the reviews I completely agree with Isherwood and Chris Jones.
I don't believe the plan was to take it to Broadway after the run at the Goodman. From the interviews and articles in the Tribune leading up to its opening, it seemed that it was intended to be a one-off run. However, based on the reviews and the popularity here, I'm sure that could change.
No, it doesn't say that. Teachout writes that there is "talk" of a Broadway transfer and then says "so it should--exactly as it is."
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

Saw the opening last night. I'm still exhausted and haunted by it. Absolutely brilliant - riveting, exhausting, powerful, heartbreaking all at once.
Lane is brilliant, but really has the potential to deliver what could be the best stage performance of the decade with some more time. Dennehy is incredible. Young Patrick Andrews is sensational. Stephen Ouimette is a master actor. John Hoogenakker has a Tony in his future (should this make it to New York), but he'll be competing with equally brilliant turns from Andrews, John Douglas Thompson, James Harms, Ouimette...I can't say enough good things. Go go go go go go.
I've got to find a cheap way to get to Chicago for this. Anyone know how partial the partial view box seats are at the Goodman? Its looking like my only option right now.
