I had heard they were going to do 2 separate cds; one with the new material which would be a sort of cast recording for the Marilyn musical and one of the covers similar to the Glee soundtracks.
They have apparently now decided to combine the two resulting in a few Shaiman/Wittman casualties.
Original songs NOT on the cd are:
I Never Met A Wolf Who Didn't Love To Howl The National Pastime On Lexington & 52 St Never Give All The Heart The Higher You Get The Farther You Fall A Thousand And One Nights
Seriously? Their only noteworthy numbers have been the original ones. Whoever has told them that their cover songs are good should be slapped. God please don't tell me that this means more crappy covers for season 2....
Whoever says money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to shop. - Bo Derek
Nearly every critique of the show has complained aboput the cover songs so maybe they'll listen. I'm sure the label is hoping for a Glee sales like success, though those songs do well immediately on iTunes, I can assume that this one hasn't done similarly.
So they're releasing the bland covers of pop songs rather than the interesting, new well-performed (and well received) original ones...
Yep, sounds like a GREAT idea!
I get it, they're in the business to make money. Glee has covered pop songs and made a ton of money doing it and they just want to get in on the act. It just seems that by cutting the original songs they're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
Whatever happened to them releasing one album of the pop song covers and another with all the original songs? I think that that is what they should have done.
However, as much as I find those pop songs unnecessary sometimes, one cover that I am glad is on the album is Katharine McPhee's "Brighter than the Sun"
I'm only interested in the original material, as most everyone I feel around me can agree with.
The covers are shlock and take up 80 percent of the cd coming out. I won't be buying it. I'll just download all the original songs and create my own mix.
Now all I see are cute boys with short haircuts in a maze of their own...
Yea, they were going to do 2 albums, I guess the economics didn't warrant it though.
As far as the songs not included, most of them are available on itunes already (except the ones that haven't aired yet). I also downloaded them and made my own mix.
What the hell is even going on in that picture? What was running through the designer's mind? "Alright, everybody, listen up: I have no idea what this musical theatre sh*t is, but it can't be too far removed from cheerleading, right? So here's what we do: get into a human pyramid. Yes, Jaime, you can be on the bottom as long as you promise to stop giggling like a schoolgirl. Christ. Now, unfortunately Anjelica Huston couldn't be with us today because the staples started popping out of her hairline, but the Jim Henson workshop next door was kind enough to lend us their Sam the Eagle muppet to use as her stand-in. We'll just put it over in the corner. Okay...everybody, listen up. We're getting there, but we need some more interesting angles. Can you all fight over Katie's right elbow please? Also, Raza and Christian, I want you to grind your crotches together. No, tighter. Like you're trying to start a fire. Much better. Almost there, everybody! One last thing: Katie, can you please raise your right shoulder and lower your right tit? Perfect. Okay, everyone, into the camera. On three. One. Two. Smash has been cancelled. Three."
