Step aside La Cage, a new girl is coming to town. Priscilla is rollicking the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. Audiences are standing and cheering at curtain calls for the best production to pass thru Toronto in ages. Chief among the notables giving stand out performances is Nick Adams. Outstaning doesn't begin to describe Mr. Adams' performance. NY critics should get thier dictionaries out for new superlatives in describing his performce when he hits Broadway!

I've got my tickets for May 14th to see the show on Broadway. It will be my 10th time seeing Priscilla. It is the incomparable Tony Sheldon that brings me back again and again. There are not many actors I'd travel the world to see. He is definitely one.

Kind of reminds me of dear, sweet Jo who crowed how Chitty was going to fly over the Atlantic Ocean and wow Broadway for years and years to come.

Jo was sadly mistaken. DBob is an unsubtle hack.

Well I'm not a shill. I saw the show in Toronto and thought it was great fun. It's pretty easily better than most of the long-running Broadway shows at the time. I think it's going to be a big fat hit.

Though I found Adams very funny, I preferred Swenson and Sheldon. Though I suppose it's because their characters have more dramatic heft.

If they had let Sheldon keep "Both Sides Now" as a song for Bernadette, I think a Tony would be w/out question. I love what he does w the song on the OCR and "True Colours" doesn't work as well to me.

The show was fantastic, and it belongs to Tony Sheldon, who is a revelation as Bernadette. I didn't think anyone could make me not think of Terrance Stamp, and he was just marvelous.

Adams was actually the one lead who didn't really nail it for me. He was adequate, I'd say.

But the show is, make no mistake, a wonderment. So much fun, and I even teared up towards the end. If it's not a hit, it'll be a crime.

Yes, the op was quite "shilly", and I find it hard to believe that Adams is that amazing...BUT

I can't wait for this!

Add me to the list who went to Priscilla (in London) the first time KNOWING that no one could touch what Terrance Stamp did for the role of Bernadette. And yet I came out wowed that I liked Tony Shelton's Bernadette even more. Suddenly Bernadette became so much more than an angry person, which comparatively is how I then saw the Bernadette of the film.

I'm so anxious to see the changes to the show from the London production which I've seen twice.

Saw the show in Toronto last month. And, yes, Nick Adams really does shine. The role, nor the show, is Shakespeare. But he is believable and fits into the role like a sequined glove. The NY critics will likely slam the book. For a fun night out where you can see the cost of the ticket up on the stage, Priscilla is a winner.

Whatever happened to Matt Cavenaugh being in this show? Which role was he offered? Nick's?

Patash I so agree about Berndatte. Tony Sheldon's portrayal is worlds away from Terence Stamp's in the film. On stage we see a woman who has come through so much in life and has developed an inner strength which radiates to all around her. There is no doubt that she is the heart beat of the whole adventure

If you like big, camp, brash, fluffy theatre, then you are in for a treat.

If on the other hand you are looking for a piece of serious thought provoking piece of theatre, then sorry.....this show is not for you.

I am with the later, but hell when I saw it in London, I thought Tony Sheldon was very good.

I wish "Both Sides Now" was kept as well.

Phantom, if you're ONLY looking for serious thought-provoking theatre all the time (I know of no such theatre-goer), why did you bother seeing this show at all?
