I bet she couldn't care less.

Of course she couldn't care less! This isn't even a movie remake- it's a live-in-the-studio stunt performance of the show in SOME form or other. Whether it'll be the original production with "An Ordinary Couple" and no puppet show, or the revised version with "I Have Confidence" and "Something Good," whether we'll get the long Nun Chorales, all of this has yet to be seen.

But we'll have cute kids singing "Do, a deer, a female deer," probably some slightly awkward choreography for "Sixteen," and at least one Broadway star and movie/television star rounding out the cast with names.

"13 million albums sold, 5 Grammys and numerous sold out arena tours and she's not the most successful American Idol winner?

As Bill Clinton said, do the math! "

Well, we're obviously not doing the "math" if you say Carrie is the most successful Idol winner. :)

But...she is. She's sold the most units and has had the most number 1 records. Plus five Grammys. Only thing Clarkson has on here is top 40 number 1's.

Taylor Hicks.

He'd make an awesome Captain Von Trapp by the way. With Scotty McCreery as that creepy Nazi telegram boy.
No good can possibly come from using this vast wasteland of error and deliberate deceit. You should get off of it and warn others away. You should make sure your children and grandchildren know what a corrupt and morally bankrupt institution it truly is.

More number ones. More top 10 hits. More records sold. Also the more global act. Carrie sings Country, so she's pretty local.

Comcast owns 51% of NBC Universal. General Electric owns 49%. Comcast has a contract clause that allows them to buy out the remainder of GE's share after a certain number of years.

There seems to be a little curse for some women who have played Maria Von Trapp or future women who play the role involving vocal problems. Like Julie Andrews and Connie Fisher, Underwood recently lost her voice, but I think she'll recover.

She's got a year. I think she'll have enough time to get better.

Apart from what many I'm sure would regard as an icky difference in their ages, it would be interesting to see Christoph Waltz as Georg.

Waltz would be perfectly cast, but clearly the producers are not interested in casting this with people who are appropriate for the roles, so it'll probably be more like Justin Timberlake as Georg and Bette Midler as the Baroness.

Ewan McGregor turns 40 soon, so he is old enough to play the Captain.

Carrie and NBC have nothing to worry about, Julie Andrews is completely on board with this.

In all honesty I really don't think this production was hinging on Julie Andrews' approval one way or the other, but it doesn't hurt either.

Triple Threat! Young, Beautiful with the voice of an Angel. its gonna be legen...wait for it..dary

GEOFF2 nailed it

""Guys - If we truly want this medium and the masterworks in it to survive, thrive and reach new, young audiences, we have to stop being so provincial in our thinking about interpretations or casting of them. Carrie is an amazing performer who knows damn well (as do the Producers and R&H) that the approach she takes with one of her number-one country/pop hits is not the approach to take with this project. She'll put the necessary work in. And if it means millions more become aware of music theatre, I say Amen""

After just seeing Rachel York in 'Anything Goes' today I think should play the Baroness. I know that she played it in the Hollywood Bowl production.

They will probably pick a TV star as the Captain. Rob Lowe or a similar type.

I would be very excited about this concert but Carrie Underwood playing Maria makes me a LOT less excited. That is one of the weirded casting choices I have EVER heard of. They obviously want a star but why her????

Can't say I'm looking forward to this either. I'll watch it out of sheer curiosity, but I don't understand the necessity of remaking The Sound of Music. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

And yes, a part of me is still bitter that we never got a tv film of Annie Get Your Gun with Reba. That was needed. This is not. :-p

This is not a remake. It is based on strictly the Broadway version.

Mary Rodgers and Alice Hammerstein, who are both very protective of the R&H catalog, signed off on this casting so there must be something about Underwood that they liked.

It's not a concert. And if you don't want to watch it, don't watch it. I doubt anyone will care if you do. But if you don't watch it, be sure to come back and bitch and moan about how much you hated it!
