Hmmmm.....backpedal much?  Your first post about this claimed it was misleading. Now you are claiming your concern for the deaf community being unawares. Find your balance.

I'm sure the deaf community is both fully aware of SA's existence and also being wooed.

Austin McKenzie (Deaf West's Melchior) has been cast as a lead in the film adaptation of Stephen Karam's Speech & Debate (Roundabout 2007) -

Great for him, but I wonder if this affects his availability for Broadway? The film is shooting now apparently through Aug 8.

He was so good in Deaf West's Spring Awakening in Beverly Hills, his performance was heart-wrenching. I think it will be such a huge shame if he doesn't transfer. Also according to the program, he studied and was fluent in ASL already before he was cast, worked at a camp for deaf children, and this is his first professional show (before this he was only in high school productions). I don't know how they can find someone else with that kind of background...

The press release is unclear, are they all from the Deaf West cast except the swings?

It looks like they're all from the LA cast except the swings you metioned, they're just making their Broadway debuts.

How exciting that these young wonderful deaf Actors are getting a chance to show their talents on Broadway! There are very few chances for them and I congratulate the Producers for taking this chance and bringing us this production.  This is going to be a very important moment for deaf and hearing audiences. Bravo to all involved!

Th new artwork is also an improvement.  Not perfect, but an improvement so I'll take it.  Glad to see they went back to the black/pink color scheme of the LA production.

Namo, the cast is the same except for the swings and the adults (so far).

Austin will NOT be available and the creative team are desperately looking for a replacement.

You might want to tell the press release that... they seem to think he is involved.

Rehearsals for this begin August 10, so it does not conflict with filming schedule.

SUCH wonderful news that nearly the entire cast will be transferring!! I feel a little bad for the adults, but they were the weaker link in the show and the only ones panned in the LA Times review, so I'm not surprised at all ("A few of the older performers stumble when portraying the autocratic teachers — they're meant to be menacing cartoons, but here they seem oddly beset with stage fright.").

NY, if this show will be anywhere as good as it was in LA, you're in for such a treat...

Doesn't anyone think Andy Mientus and Krysta Rodriguez are a little old for the leads in Spring Awakening? She is 2 years older than Lea Michele and Lea played the character a decade ago. He's also nearing 30, and the characters are supposed to be school age. What is this, a German grad school??

I'm guessing they only "play" the voices, so the focus is on the deaf actors. Not them.

Actually dramamama611, the roles of Hanschen and Ilse are some of those without a split Character/Voice of Character track. Mientus and Rodriguez do both signing and singing for their parts.

No one gives a damn about the list of shows you've seen.

Andy and Krysta aren't the leads, and Lea and Krysta aren't the same role. But it's not your fault you didn't know that. I mean, every headline is "Andy and Krysta led SPRING AWAKENING to include 20 newcomers", so I don't blame you.

I saw the show and I didn't even consider their ages for a minute. Krysta looks 18 at the very most on stage, and Andy has such a baby face and a twinky body that he could easily pass as 16, especially with his dyed hair. Krysta is also playing a homeless girl. So even if she did look her age, I truly don't think it would matter as much for her character. If I didn't notice in a 200 seat (I believe?) theatre, I don't think anybody would notice in a 1109 seat theatre.

For those who saw this production can you tell me if front mezzanine is better or something closer in the orchestra?

We saw it from the upper reaches of the steeply rising orchestra in LA, which is equivalent to front mezzanine in a Broadway house. View is great from there. It seems to have a much larger cast than the OBC had with a lot of stage movement you can appreciate more from a raised position. Facial expressions carried to us beautifully with no problems.

Only issue I could see with those seats might be for deaf audience members who would be too far back to read the signing.
