Thank you, Mrs. Mangel. Very funny. Love "David Lean is Lear. Except that he won't give away his kingdom."
I've always loved Davis except for her highly praised performance in Husbands and Wives. Up until this interview, I thought I was the only one in the world who thought Davis overacted in that role. Good to know that Davis agrees with me.
I'm pretty sure they dubbed that in as well, possibly from a vocal-only track of the version at the end of the Christmas show in which Judy sings "Rainbow" to Lorna and Joe. The dubbing was state-of-the-art on that production, and it sounds like pure early-sixties Judy.
She's fabulous! Loved her in the Dressmaker. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet. Believe it or not, that is her voice in the scene with the CBS executives. They did not dub it.
So we have two different answers. Joey says pretty sure it wasn't hers, moveonGypsy is sure it was hers.
I would believe it, move on, because to my ear it sounds like Davis. It sounds very impressive, and Garland-like, but it still sounds very much like Davis.
Well, it is legitimately one of my favorite movies and I've watched it more than a dozen times. I also believe that Tammy Blanchard is singing "Eli, Eli" (during the audition scene) as I haven't been able to find a recording from Judy Garland and again, she can sing.
