Shirley Gnome's critically celebrated shows are all about sex - but not just for the sake of smut. She combines incredible musicianship with honest insights to create an hour of songs that are smart, heartfelt, and wildly entertaining. So much so that her latest show has caught the attention of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival - she has been invited to be part of the program as a late addition.

Shirley takes to the stage looking like a mix of Dolly Parton and Joni Mitchell, armed only with an acoustic guitar. But don't let her wholesome appearance and her folksy charm fool you - she holds no punches with her sexual content and explicit language. Yet with an unbelievably beautiful voice and cleverly constructed songs, her musical prowess is worth the price of admission alone. Add to that themes of empowerment, political satire, and pop parody and you get her unique mixture of profanities and profundities that take "dirty country" to the next level. Between provocative tales and pretty melodies, she maintains a sassy wit and charisma that make audiences feel that they've known her for years - a friend who speaks her mind with a cheeky grin.

Hailing from Vancouver Canada, Shirley began her career with a surprise win of The People's Champ of Comedy - a national contest with a $20,000 grand prize that had her take the crown over seasoned veterans of the craft. Following a five star season at Edinburgh Fringe in 2013, and award-winning performances across Canada and the US since, this songstress has made her way to Australia for the first time. Both of her touring shows were nominated for Best Comedy at FringeWorld when they debuted there in January of this year, and her Adelaide presentations garnered unanimous 4.5 star reviews.

With only three nights of performances, Shirley Gnome: Real Mature will be a hot ticket. It will be one of the most unapologetic and empowering shows at the MICF this year. Bookings recommended.
