The awakening of black bodies from the African diaspora in Australia will be explored in cohealth Arts Generator's new work, AMKA at Arts Centre Melbourne's Fairfax Studio from 22 - 23 September 2017.

AMKA rethinks African identity through trans-disciplinary storytelling where the past, present and future encounter one another. Spoken word, music, dance, theatre and projection come together to showcase narratives portraying powerful experiences of belonging, representation and emancipation.

The new work features an ensemble of performing artists and musicians brought together by cohealth Arts Generator from Melbourne's West. These include Akimera, Geskeva Komba, Manal Younus, Yaw Faso, Solomon Salew, Wani Le Frère, and film-maker Ez Eldin Deng with original soundtrack and music by hip hop artists and producers Joe Motley, and Mohamed Komba aka Momo (Diafrix).

cohealth Arts Generator, formerly Barkly Arts Centre, works in partnership with individuals and communities who experience limited access to arts and cultural opportunities. Through participatory arts practice cohealth Arts Generator aims to increase wellbeing by unlocking creative potential and building connections to the broader community.

Arts Centre Melbourne has partnered with cohealth on a number of significant major community projects for young people and communities. These have included the eMotion project in 2012 and most recently Inner Beat - Live performed this year at Arts Centre Melbourne.
