In February 2017, Arts House present a series of works that span the Pacific and Indian oceans and connect Australian audiences to the cultural undercurrents, fractures and reverberations of contemporary Asia.

As part of Asia TOPA, Arts House welcomes Japanese docu-performance mavericks Hamanaka Company and Toshiki Okada's chelfitsch with two works that investigate postdisaster; and dance provocateurs Daniel Kok (Singapore) and Melbourne's Luke George bring their work Bunny - an interactive performance with technicoloured rope.

In response to the 2011 Japanese tsunami, Hamanaka Company and chelfitsch interrogate the ramifications people experience following a natural disaster, including grief and hope.

Pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance, Bunny is a durational work that will tighten and expand the immersive experiences between artist and audience.

Arts House Artistic Director Angharad Wynne-Jones is thrilled Arts House is presenting these mesmerising, energising and utterly unpredictable international collaborations.

"What better way to open 2017 then with these three innovative and mesmerising works," said Wynne-Jones.

"After a European premier at Kunstenfestivaldesarts in 2016, the incredible chelfitsch bring us a beautiful, haunting contemplation on love and loss; and we welcome Hamanaka Company's lyrical investigation into what it is to document disaster. Both works are filled with the reverberations of life in Japan post Fukishima, which resonate deeply with our Antipodean experience of the climate change emergency."
