In 2006, BLL staged Requiem, an aerial dance piece utilizing an infamous Austin eyesore, the Intel Shell. This quietly epic aerial ballet transformed the decaying structure and its audience of nearly 14,000, fixing Blue Lapis Light in the firmament of Central Texas’ creative culture. This September, BLL will return to the vicinity of the original site to stage In Light, a new aerial dance work on the IBC Bank building (1 block from the site of Requiem).

The stunning performances of In Light will both recall elements of Requiem and coalesce with downtown Austin’s new identity. Sixteen performers suspended on ropes and Chinese poles will dance across the face of the building, conveying a transcendent journey of darkness into light. Collaborations with Austin’s Ilios Lighting and projectionist Jeff Kurihara to digitally map IBC Bank will add an exciting new visual layer to this piece.

While the performance takes place on IBC Bank, the seating area is located across the street in the LAZ parking lot at 510 Guadalupe St. (the old Post Office). Seating for In Light is extremely limited. We highly encourage purchasing tickets in advance with your group to ensure you don’t miss this unique and fleeting show! Ticketed seats offer a fantastic view and are the ideal place to watch from. Your ticket directly funds inspiring and unique local art, conceived and brought to life by Austin residents. If you cannot afford a ticket or simply choose to watch from another location, please consider supporting great art by giving a $10 donation to Blue Lapis Light (in the ticketing options above).

Join us after the show on Thursday, 9/25 for an After Party Fundraiser at Cedar Street Courtyard (208 W. 4th Street). Mingle with BLL's Artistic Director Sally Jacques and In Light Performers while enjoying an array of tapas from Malaga. Party will run from 10pm - 12am. Tickets available above or at the door.

In Light follows the ongoing mission of Blue Lapis Light to create transcendent works of beauty that are offered, without religious denomination, as prayers for the planet. For more information about In Light and to view videos of past events, visit www.bluelapislight.org. Blue Lapis Light is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

In Light is funded and supported in part by the Downtown Austin Alliance and the City of Austin through the Economic Development Department/Cultural Arts Division, believing an investment in the Arts is an investment in Austin’s future. Visit Austin at NowPlayingAustin.com. In Light would not be possible with out the generous support of IBC Bank, Endeavor Real Estate and LAZ Parking. Additional Blue Lapis Light funding comes from the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Brown Foundation, the Ben & Rachael Vaughan Foundation, Frost Bank, the Creative Fund, Schnurr Inc. and community support.
