Summer Stages: BWW's Top Summer Theatre Picks - Atlanta!

Summertime means different things to each of us. To children it means a break from school, to adults it means the possibility of a summer vacation somewhere sunny and warm, and here at BroadwayWorld Atlanta it means one thing… Theatre! And, they don't call it Hotlanta just for the temperature - there is so much going on this summer in the world of theatre. So, when the temperatures get unbearable pop into a cool theater and check out some of these selections. It was very hard to do, but we have selected the top 5 summer picks, but we encourage you to let us know your picks as well! Happy Summer!

1 – Gypsy and Legally Blonde

Atlanta Lyric Theatre -

Atlanta Lyric Theatre, Atlanta's only local professional musical theater company, presents two musicals that epitomize summer fun, Gypsy (June 15 – July 1) and Legally Blonde (July 27 – August 12).

2-Illyria: A Twelfth Night Musical, Much Ado About Nothing, The Importance of Being Earnest and The Emperor and the Nightingale

Georgia Shakespeare -

An Atlanta tradition, presenting numerous works this summer including, Illyria: A Twelfth Night Musical (June 6 – August 5), Much Ado About Nothing (June 21 – August 4), The Importance of Being Earnest (July 5 – August 3) and The Emperor and the Nightingale (July 14 – August 3).

3 - Xanadu

Actor's Express -

What defines summer fun better than campy music, a fun story and 70's roller disco? Check out the award winning Actor's Express present this surprise hit from the 2007-2008 Broadway season (May 10 – June 16).

4 - Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Time Between Us

Serenbe Playhouse -

If you are looking for something a little out of the norm, check out the Serenbe Playhouse and experience theatre in a natural environment. Presenting three productions this summer including a world premiere adaptation of Alice in Wonderland (June 1 – July 28), A Midsummer Night's Dream (June 28 – July 15), and the Regional World Premiere musical Time Between Us (July 26 – August 18).

5 - The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

Onstage Atlanta -

OnStage Atlanta closes its 40th Anniversary season with the Tony Award winning Broadway musical comedy. What better way to spend a warm Georgia summer night than in Texas in the company of Miss Mona and her lovely ladies under those "twenty fans turning in every room."

He holds a Journalism degree from the University of Georgia, but his true love is the theatre which he has been involved in as a spectator as well as an actor for the last 25+ years.
