Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Announces New Members

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Board Chair Jim Abrahamson and President Stanley E. Romanstein, Ph.D., recently welcomed six new members to the Orchestra's Board of Directors: Neil Berman, S. Wright Caughman, M.D., Carlos del Rio, M.D., Jim Landon, Kelly L. Loeffler, and Paul Snyder. The new Board members will serve three-year terms.

Neil Berman is the President and CEO of Metro Alloys, Inc. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Chamber Players as well as the Friends of Music at Emory University. Mr. Berman also previously served on the Board of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

S. Wright Caughman, M.D., is Emory University's Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, CEO of Emory's Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC), and Board Chairman of Emory Healthcare. Dr. Caughman previously served as WHSC's Vice President for Clinical and Academic Integration, a role in which he was responsible for coordinating, implementing, and managing the center's strategic plan for transforming health and healing. He was also Director of The Emory Clinic and Executive Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Caughman is the former Chair of the Dermatology Department in Emory's School of Medicine. Dr. Caughman joined the dermatology faculty at Emory in 1990 after serving as Medical Officer and Principal Investigator in the dermatology branch of the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. In addition to teaching and working as a staff physician at The Emory Clinic, Grady Memorial Hospital and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, he was Director of Research in Emory's Department of Dermatology for four years before becoming department Chair. He has been a member of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in the Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, of the Winship Cancer Institute faculty, and has served as Director of the Emory Skin Diseases Research Center. Dr. Caughman led a successful research program in cutaneous biology for many years and was one of two co?chairs of the School of Medicine research strategic plans in 1997 and 2003. He was named Chair of the Department of Dermatology in 1997.After receiving his undergraduate degree at Davidson College and his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Caughman completed his residency (and served as Chief Resident) in dermatology at Harvard Medical School. He was a high school English teacher for several years before pursuing his medical degree.

Carlos del Rio, M.D., is the Chair of the Hubert Department of Global Health at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, as well as the Co-Director of the Emory Center for AIDS Research and Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) at Emory University Medical School. He was born in Mexico City. His father was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in Mexico. His wife, Dr. Jeannette Guarner, is a pathologist. Carlos and Jeannette have two adult children. Carlos was recommended by two board members, Lynn Schinazi and his neighbor, John White. In addition to having served on numerous professional boards, Carlos has served on the boards of AID Atlanta and the Paideia School. Carlos and Jeannette are life-long music lovers, current Atlanta Symphony Orchestra classical season subscribers and contributors.

Jim Landon has extensive experience in corporate tax and employee benefits law, particularly in matters relating to all aspects of ERISA. He has represented plan sponsors, corporate and individual trustees, and investment managers in matters relating to tax-qualified pension and savings plans as well as nonqualified plans. Mr. Landon counsels clients, including ChoicePoint and Balfour Beatty, with employee benefits issues in corporate transactions such as mergers, sales, acquisitions, and spin-offs involving assets as well as stock. This counseling involves applicable provisions of COBRA, as well as the Internal Revenue Code, including issues of partial terminations, restrictions on distributions from 401(k) plans, and rationalization of benefits among groups. He also serves as the general counsel for a major nonprofit organization and has extensive experience in matters of nonprofit tax and governance issues. Mr. Landon is a member of the ABA (Taxation Section, Employee Benefits Committee), the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, and the Southern Employee Benefits Conference.

Kelly L. Loeffler is Vice President and head of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications at IntercontinentalExchange (NYSE: ICE), a leading operator of global futures exchanges. Ms. Loffler is responsible for all aspects of ICE's investor relations program, financial communications, global media relations and corporate marketing. Prior to joining ICE in 2002, Ms. Loeffler managed investor relations at Crossroads Investment Advisers, L.P., a private equity firm. She held equity research roles at William Blair & Company and at Citi Global Asset Management. Ms. Loeffler began her career in the automotive industry, holding progressive operations and marketing roles at Toyota Motor Sales, USA and Lexus Motor Sales, USA. Ms. Loeffler is a co?owner of the Atlanta Dream, the first women?owned professional sports team in Atlanta. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Tiffany Circle, and serves on the Advisory Board of Skyland Trail and the Gene Siskel Film Center. Ms. Loeffler earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Illinois and an MBA at the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University. She is a CFA charterholder.

Paul Snyder is Vice President of Corporate Responsibility of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) for the Americas region. His role includes implementing sustainability and community efforts throughout the regions's hotels in North and South America. Mr. Snyder joined IHG in 2003 and was most recently Vice President of Portfolio Operations for the Americas. His previous roles have included leadership positions in Development, Operations and Brand Management. Prior to joining IHG, Mr. Snyder worked in the Brand Management, IT, and Development organizations of Marriott International. He started his career in the hospitality industry with Winegardner & Hammons, Inc. Mr. Synder's love of classical music started at an early age - he was a trombonist, and was a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, performed on two European tours, and spent a summer at Tanglewood Institute  as part of the Empire Brass program. He has been a volunteer with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since 2003, and has contributed to the efforts of the Patron Partnership, Institutional Investor's Council, and led the Atlanta Symphony's partnership with IHG for the past two years. Mr. Snyder earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at Lawrence University and a Masters of Business Administration at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management.
