The ALLIANCE THEATRE announced today that General Manager Max Leventhal has accepted the position of Owners' Representative to the Woodruff Arts Center for multi-phased capital project planning, intended to transform the performance and public spaces in the campus's Memorial Arts Building. Leventhal, who has served at the ALLIANCE THEATRE for the past twelve seasons, brings a wealth of institutional knowledge and project management experience to this new position.

"One of the most exciting and important opportunities we have facing us is to adapt our campus to the changing needs of our community and our art," said Virginia Hepner, President and CEO of the Woodruff Arts Center. "We are most fortunate to have someone of Max's professional background, expertise and knowledge of the campus available to focus on this priority effort."

As General Manager of the Alliance, Leventhal oversaw the management of artists and union relationships, as well as production, marketing, and facilities development. He has acted as lead producer for the Alliance's co-productions and enhanced projects, most notably The Color Purple, the national tour of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Sister Act - the Musical, Come Fly Away, Bring It On: The Musical, the American premiere of Zorro, and Harmony - A New Musical.

Since the close of the 2012/13 Season, Leventhal has initiated revitalization projects in the Alliance's 200-seat Hertz Stage and laid the foundation for further projects on the Alliance Stage. He also coordinated the planning and building of the Alliance's off-campus scene shop, located on Atlanta's Westside, where props and sets are built. Before joining the Alliance, Leventhal served as Production Manager for the Goodman Theatre in Chicago where he oversaw the completion of an extensive 10-year construction project that resulted in a new facility for the Goodman in Chicago's Loop.

"Revitalizing the performance and public spaces of the Woodruff Arts Center is paramount to the future of the ALLIANCE THEATRE and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra," said Leventhal. "Work on these spaces will allow greater access and engagement with our patrons and community. I am honored to continue serving the theatre and divisions of the Woodruff in this new role."

"Although Max is a critical and irreplaceable member of the Alliance's senior team, the larger opportunity for us to transform our facility is an essential pursuit for us, and Max's leadership on our behalf, as well as the Arts Center's in that effort is key to its ultimate success," said Susan V. Booth, Jennings Hertz Artistic Director of the ALLIANCE THEATRE.

Leventhal will begin transitioning into his new role immediately, but will remain the Alliance's primary liaison to the creative and producing team on its current production of Harmony - A New Musical through its opening night on September 15, 2013.
