Take a respite from the busy workday with the glories of classical music.

Beginning September 7, WQXR will provide joy and uplift with "Midday Masterpieces," a new monthly series featuring free performances in The Greene Space.

Rising stars from The Juilliard School will perform selections from some of the most beloved composers. The series will kick off with violinist Tessa Lark, who will perform Franz Schubert's Fantasie.

"Midday Masterpieces" will take place every first Wednesday of the month through the fall (October 5, November 2, and December 7).

Lark was named the Silver Medalist of the 2014 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, making her the highest-ranked American-born winner in the Competition's history. She is a recipient of a career grant from the Leonore Annenberg Fellowship Fund for the Performing and Visual Arts and a 2016 Avery Fisher Career Grant. Other awards include the prestigious Naumburg International Violin Award in 2012 and the 2008 Irving Klein International Strings Competition.

The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space is the street-level broadcast studio and performance venue of WNYC and WQXR that produces special live editions of WNYC programs and WQXR concerts and festivals, as well as original programming, including theater events, arts and culture conversation series, political debates and audio theater. It serves as a place for experimentation, cultural discovery and dialogue. For more information, visit www.thegreenespace.org
