The passing of Pete Seeger on Monday, January 27th at the age of 94 was felt around the world and, in a personal way, at WFUV (90.7 FM/wfuv.org), where he visited several times. The daily features, The WFUV Question of the Day, which airs shortly after 9 a.m., and The FUV Mixtape, airing in the 12 noon hour, were both devoted to Seeger's music on the day after his death.

(The playlist from the January 28 Mixtape can be heard on Spotify.)

This weekend at least three of WFUV's hosts will honor Pete Seeger, each in his own way. Don McGee , host of Mixed Bag(Saturday 4-8 p.m.), promises "a lot of Pete in all shapes and forms, including folks he influenced, such as Don McLean, The Byrds, and Peter, Paul & Mary."

On Sunday Breakfast (8-11 a.m.), John Platt will feature Pete Seeger the live performer, some favorite Seeger covers, and tribute songs written by the likes of Harry Chapin and Steve Earle.

On Sunday between 4-5 p.m., Bob Sherman will dedicate Woody's Children to Pete, who coined the phrase that became the name of the show. Bob will play songs from a half-dozen admirers and read a poem about Pete, titled "Because You Were There," by Charlie Cody, interspersed with Seeger's songs. (Pete was scheduled to headline the recent Woody's Children 45thAnniversary Concert at Symphony Space, but was unable to attend because of his illness.)

Finally, Rita Houston's 1995 conversation with Pete can be heard on demand in the WFUV archives.

WFUV (90.7 FM, www.wfuv.org), New York's source for music discovery, is a noncommercial, member-supported public media service of Fordham University for more than 65 years. WFUV has received national recognition for its award-winning weekday format of adult album alternative music, award-winning local news and sports, and a diverse weekend lineup.
