As reported yesterday by BroadwayWorld, this morning at 11am in Vienna, Austria (5am EST), the Raimund Theater hosted a livestreamed onstage press conference previewing selections from composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz's new musical, SCHIKANEDER.

Billed as "a turbulent love affair," SCHIKANEDER, is scheduled to have its world premiere on September 30th at the Raimund. The musical is based on the true story of the unconventional marriage between actor, singer, director, writer and stage manager Emanuel Schikaneder and his wife Eleanore. In the late 1700s, Schikaneder was a frequent author of opera libretti, most notably writing the words for Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE.

The new musical has a book by Christian Struppeck, artistic director of the Raimund Theater and is directed by the renowned Sir Trevor Nunn, whose successes include the original West End and Broadway productions of CATS and LES MISERABLES.

While most of it was conducted in German, English language highlights include librettist Michael Kunze, author of the German book and lyrics for DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES, interviewing Schwartz at the 8:45 mark. At 14:30 the composer/lyricist sits at the piano and sings selections from the score. Previously filmed comments by Trevor Nunn begin at 41:00.

At the 51:00 mark, the presentation ends with a full orchestra accompanying stars Mark Siebert and Milia Jovanovic, singing from the score in German.
