The designs of 6-time Tony Award-winning costume designer WILLIAM IVEY LONG - currently represented on Broadway with the musicals CINDERELLA, BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, CHICAGO and CABARET - will be featured in an entire category on the Friday, May 16 telecast of JEOPARDY!, America's Favorite Quiz Show ®. (Check local listings for broadcast times in your area.)

JEOPARDY! and its host Alex Trebek are celebrating 30 years of "answers and questions," and while JEOPARDY! has presented thousands of clues about Broadway to contestants through the years, this marks the first time that JEOPARDY! has presented an entire category about a single Broadway designer. The Ivey Long costume category comes on the heels, as it were, of JEOPARDY!'s recent categories devoted to current Broadway shows: Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA was featured last November, while the musical WICKED appeared October, coinciding with the musical's 10th anniversary on Broadway.

The JEOPARDY! Clue Crew, a group of roving correspondents who travel the world taping clues, have visited more than a dozen Broadway sets to produce clues, including "Avenue Q", "The Phantom of the Opera", "Les Miserables," "The Producers," "Hairspray,""Oklahoma!", "RENT," "The Lion King," and "Monty Python's Spamalot." Working with the production teams of the Broadway shows, JEOPARDY! has provided its millions of viewers with "backstage" access to some of biggest hits in theater.

JEOPARDY! has showcased Broadway in other ways as well, including full categories presented by theatre luminaries such as Edward Albee and Andrew Lloyd Webber asking contestants about their work. Additionally, JEOPARDY! has featured actors/casts from some of the biggest Broadway shows presenting clues (and when they are from musicals, performing parts of the score). Shows with clues presented by cast members include "Mamma Mia", "Jersey Boys" and "The Color Purple".

William Ivey Long has designed 65 shows for the Broadway stage, winning his sixth Tony Award for Best Costume Design for CINDERELLA, now in its second year on Broadway. His other current Broadway productions: CABARET, BULLETS OVER BROADWAY and CHICAGO, now in its 18th year. Select credits include GREY GARDENS, THE BOY FROM OZ, HAIRSPRAY, THE PRODUCERS, MUSIC MAN, CONTACT, GUYS AND DOLLS, CRAZY FOR YOU, NINE. He was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in 2006 and elected chairman of the American Theatre Wing in 2012.
