The 2016 Tony Awards race is officially underway following this morning's big announcement - and Stephen Karam's THE HUMANS is tapping into the current political discourse to shape its own awards campaign.

This afternoon, the production unveiled a new pair of images on Twitter in order to promote two of its stars in their upcoming races - Reed Birney for 'Actor in a Featured Role' and Jayne Houdyshell for 'Actress in a Featured Role,' by taking a cue from Democratic Presidential nominees Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, respectively. Check them out above and below, and let us know if you #FeeltheBirn, can say #I'mWithHoudyshell, or more likely, both!

Karam's THE HUMANS also scored nods for Best Play, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design of a Play and Best Direction of a Play.

This year and every year, BroadwayWorld's your best spot for all things Tony Awards, including nominee reactions, exclusive reports, behind the scenes coverage and so much more. For the full list of nominees, click here, and here to see what each had to say after receiving the big news.

The ensemble cast of the production includes Cassie Beck, Lauren Klein, Arian Moayed and Sarah Steele.

"The angst, anguish and amity of the American middle class are first coaxed - then shoved - into the light in this uproarious, hopeful, and heart-breaking play that takes place over the course of a family dinner on Thanksgiving," per press notes. "Breaking with tradition, Erik Blake (Birney) has brought his Pennsylvania family to celebrate and give thanks at his daughter's apartment in lower Manhattan. As darkness falls outside the ramshackle pre-war duplex, and eerie things start to go bump in the night, the Blake clan's deepest fears and greatest follies are laid bare. Our modern age of anxiety is keenly observed, with humor and compassion, in this new American classic."
