Former Led Zeppelin singer and multi-Grammy Award winner Robert Plant brings his latest music project Sensational Space Shifters to his Wolf Trap debut. Plant joined legendary rock band Led Zeppelin in 1968 and reinvented rock with hits like "Stairway to Heaven," "Dazed and Confused," and "Black Dog." With the band's breakup in 1980, Plant dove into a variety of solo and group projects, including a reunion with Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page in the mid '90s. His 2007 collaboration with Alison Krauss, Raising Sand, won six Grammy Awards. Now he currently performs with Sensational Space Shifters, whose lineup includes Justin Adams (guitar, bendir), John Baggott (keyboards), Juldeh Camara (ritti, kologo, talking drum), Billy Fuller (bass guitar), Dave Smith (drums, percussion), and Liam "Skin" Tyson (guitar). Combining African beats, synthesizer funk, rock 'n' roll, and blues, the band plays a mix of new songs and Led Zeppelin hits.

Frequently compared to guitar legends such as Jimi Hendrix and Jerry Garcia, guitarist Bombino takes to the Filene Center stage for the first time. Born in Niger, Bombino's turbulent upbringing has greatly influenced his music, and he frequently discusses achieving universal civil rights in his lyrics. Bombino recorded a desert blues remix of "Hey Negrita" with Rolling Stone members Keith Richards and Charlie Watts in 2006 and was the first artist to perform a concert in front of the Great Mosque of Agadez in Niger in 2010. While his first album Agadez (2011) had moderate success, 2013's Nomad reached the top of the world music charts and was described by Rolling Stone as "a perfect match of sound and soul [that] introduces a new guitar hero."

The band first gained notoriety with the release of their critically acclaimed LP The Joker in 1973. Determined to continue the group's success, front man Steve Miller stole away to his recording studio in order to perfect their next album. The result was the wildly successful Fly Like An Eagle (1976). With more than 30 million albums sold worldwide, the band has never stopped jamming, recently releasing Let Your Hair Down (2011), which features the last recordings of harmonica legend Norton Buffalo.

Combining country, rock, and soul, Brandi Carlile's voice has been described as a "visceral marvel; even the falsetto range is red-blooded and clarion clear." As a teenager in the state of Washington, Carlile already had a devoted fan base. After multiple self-released albums, Carlile released her self-titled, official debut album with Columbia Records in 2005. The same year, she was named one of Rolling Stone's "Artists to Watch." Her other albums include The Story (2007), Give Up the Ghost(2009), and most recently, Bear Creek (2012). She has not only toured with the Avett Brothers and Dave Matthews Band, but she also co-founded The Looking Out Foundation in 2008 with her twin bandmates Phil and Tim Hanseroth. For every concert ticket sold, they donate $1 to organizations that support the arts, women, public health, the hungry, and the homeless.

Though greatly influenced by folk, indie-rock, country, and modern music, Americana Music Award-winner Justin Townes Earle has found a way to create a sound all his own. The son of country legend Steve Earle, he began touring with his father's band before releasing his debut EP Yuma in 2007. His recent releases include 2010's critically acclaimed Harlem River Blues and 2012's successful Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now. Earle's unique voice has been described by The New Yorker as a "snaky baritone," and NPR claims he "has no contemporary peer."

Easily comparable to Americana bands like Mumford & Sons and the Lumineers, The Lone Bellow is a trio of performers on the rise. Describing their sound as "country-soul," the band is composed of lead vocalist and songwriter Zach Williams, Kanene Pipkin (mandolin, vocals) and Brian Elmquist (guitar, vocals). The Brooklyn-based trio combines an acoustic sound with swelling three-part harmonies. AllMusic.com described their 2013 eponymous debut album as "full of haunting, passionate songs that breathe with country soul and a kind of autumnal grace."

Gordon Lightfoot
50 Years on the Carefree Highway Tour

One of Canada's musical legends, Gordon Lightfoot comes to the Filene Center to showcase his poetic songs and folk traditions. Initially starting out as a jazz composer in Los Angeles in the early '60s, he moved back to Canada where he was discovered at a Toronto nightclub. After having original songs like "Early Morning Rain" and "For Loving Me" covered by icons like Elvis and Johnny Cash, Lightfoot released his debut album in 1966. In the '70s, Lightfoot performed pioneering hits like "If You Could Read My Mind," "Carefree Highway," and the incomparable "Sundown." Though he suffered a near-fatal aneurysm in 2002, the Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee was back on the road by 2005 and has continued to put out both live and studio albums, a testament to his incredible staying power atop the folk music world.

1812 Overture and More!

With highlights from two of the greatest composers of the 19th-century, the National Symphony orchestra delights audiences with fanfare and classical performances in1812 Overture and More! Led by Indian-American conductor Ankush Kumar Bahl, the NSO is performing snippets from many of Tchaikovsky's greatest works, including The Sleeping Beauty, Serenades for Strings, and Swan Lake, finishing with the climactic volley of 1812 Overture in its entirety. The NSO is also joined by piano prodigy Benjamin Grosvenor as he performs a Rachmaninoff classic. The British pianist is set to perform Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor in what can only be described as a tremendous celebration.

Celebrating both the regal landscapes that cover our nation and the wonderful music from some of the great American composers, America the Beautiful salutes our country's cultural traditions in an incredible display of musical and visual art. Masterful images from Ansel Adams are projected on huge screens as Chris and Dave Brubeck pay tribute to the legendary photographer through an original composition. The National Symphony Orchestra, led by Emil de Cou, is set to play classic works from Aaron Copland (Fanfare for the Common Man), George Gershwin (An American in Paris), and John Williams (music from the film Lincoln) in a wonderful display of patriotic reverence.

The two singers have had major success on Broadway, national tours, and in regional theatres, performing in shows likeThe Vagina Monologues, 9 to 5: The Musical, and South Pacific. Led by Steven Reineke, the National Symphony Orchestra helps the soloists perform hit songs from musicals like Wicked, All That Jazz, Ragtime, and Spamalot. Murney and Block also reach into movie classics, singing their renditions of singles from The Wizard of Ozand Titanic.
