Sounds Forced to Cancel Production of LES MISERABLES

Sounds Summer Musical's mission is to create family friendly theatre. Origianlly, they were planning on producing a run of Les Miserables this year. They were working with the licensing agent to try and remove all offensive material in order to make it family friendly. However, according to Local News 8, the show has been canceled.

Director Gayleen Meservey had to break the news to the 150 cast members, who had already spent weeks rehearsing. She stated, "We had originally thought we could take some of the offensive, vulgar and blasphemous language out and maintain the integrity of the play. It turns out the licensing agent would not allow that. Sounds summer musicals is all about being family friendly and not adding to the pollution in the world, so we felt it better to cancel and pick up a property we could maintain those standards with."

Sounds has now aquired the rights to Fiddler on the Roof and will be performing it the same days that Les Mis was scheduled for.

Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, Les Miserables is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score includes the classic songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Stars," "Bring Him Home," "Do You Hear the People Sing?," "One Day More," "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables," "Master Of The House" and many more.
