The Sacramento Region Performing Arts Alliance, which operates the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera, has named Alice Sauro as Interim Executive Director. She was introduced to the Alliance's Board of Directors on January 30 at their winter retreat which had 100 percent attendance for the 7-hour conclave.

Sauro has a 29-year career of successful service as a musician and a manager of performing arts organizations. A conservatory-trained violinist, her 25-year performing career was cut short by injury which opened up management opportunities starting as musical director (lead contractor) for the Nederlander-operated Fisher Theatre in Detroit. In 2007, Sauro was recruited by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as its Assistant Orchestra Personnel Manager prior to being named by DSO Music Director, Leonard Slatkin, as his managing assistant. Before moving to the Bay Area last Fall as a result of her husband's job transfer, Sauro was the DSO's Orchestra Manager, responsible for all orchestra operations, stage and orchestra personnel management, orchestra library, regional and domestic touring, and the day-to-day relationships among musicians, guest artists, conductors, and venues.

As Interim Executive Director, Sauro will partner with the Alliance's Board, Musicians, and Staff to finish planning for a Spring 2015 season as well as a 2015-16 season of classical, pops, and educational programs.

"I am captivated by the energy and personality of Sacramento," remarked Sauro. "Everywhere I look, I see possibilities: generosity of word and deed; volunteers, musicians, and staff with outstretched hands of collaboration; and a community ripe for an orchestra and opera company distinguished by its commitment to being uniquely of Sacramento and uniquely for Sacramento."

"We're thrilled to have attracted a veteran of Alice's stature as our partner," said Laurie Nelson, president of the Alliance board. "As we unfold what I think will be very exciting plans for a Spring 2015 season and beyond, I look forward to all of Sacramento becoming captivated by Alice's can-do, optimistic attitude."

Mrs. Sauro began her duties on January 26.
