Roundabout Theatre Company Managing Director Harold Wolpert Will Depart in October

Roundabout Theatre Company, one of the nation's most influential nonprofit theatre companies, as well as one of New York City's leading cultural institutions, has announced today that Managing Director Harold Wolpert will depart in October 2016 to pursue new opportunities.

At the request of the Board, Harold has agreed to stay on through the middle of 2017 as a consultant on various issues critical to the institution.

Wolpert explained: "Roundabout Theater Company provided an extraordinarily complex and rewarding professional opportunity. I'm so proud of the significant progress we've achieved at Roundabout, as moving companies forward is quite rewarding for me. I also find it deeply fulfilling to hire and lead a top-notch staff, foster a sense of community and cultivate an open, supportive and motivating environment. I am grateful to Todd and our wonderful board for their excellent leadership, and I'm thankful for the many meaningful relationships I have formed that will be touchstones as I explore exciting new opportunities. I feel confident about my departure now, as I am certain that Roundabout faces a bright and secure future and I will always feel honored to have been a part of this special company."

Todd Haimes (Artistic Director) added: "Harold has been a truly extraordinary business partner. His management and leadership skills have allowed the theater to grow and thrive over the past decade, culminating in the enormous success of our current 50th anniversary season. Harold evolved the company's marketing strategies including highly developed social and digital media efforts. He was integral in the success of the renovation and opening of the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, the opening of Roundabout Underground and three national tours produced exclusively by Roundabout. I am thankful to Harold for agreeing to work in a consulting capacity following his departure. I will miss him both personally and professionally and wish him well in his future endeavors. I am sure he will be an asset in his next role."

Harold, a three-time Tony Award winner, joined the Roundabout as Managing Director in July 2005 following five years as General Manager at Manhattan Theatre Club.

In the industry, Harold is known as one of the foremost not-for-profit leaders and managers in the country. During his career, he has led all management, finance, administration, production, marketing, operations, and labor relations for some of the largest, most prominent, and complex not-for-profit theatre companies. He has excelled at leading companies through periods of significant growth and challenges. He is recognized as a national leader in the not-for-profit field, representing Roundabout as Vice President of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT) and a board member of Theatre Communications Group (TCG). He was an adjunct lecturer for the Brooklyn College MFA Program in Performing Arts Management for 9 years, and recently was a guest lecturer for Shanghai Theatre Academy. While the General Manager of the Alley Theatre, he served as Board Chairman of AIDS Foundation Houston, where he led the organization's fundraising efforts. Currently he volunteers for The Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24.

Plans for the Managing Director position will be announced shortly.

Roundabout Theatre Company's 50th Anniversary Season celebrates the company's numerous accomplishments and vision for the future with bold new productions of classic plays, a revival of the Roundabout's first musical, and new work by some of the country's most exciting young talent. Founded in 1965, Roundabout Theatre Company has grown from a small 150-seat theatre in a converted Chelsea supermarket basement to become one of the nation's most influential not-for-profit theatre companies, as well as one of New York City's leading cultural institutions. Roundabout's 50th anniversary season in 2015-2016 includes: the national tour of Sam Mendes & Rob Marshall's Tony Award-winning production of Cabaret.

Roundabout's 2016-2017 season will include Holiday Inn, The New Irving Berlin Musical by Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge, directed by Gordon Greenberg with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin; Diane Lane in The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov with a new adaption by Stephen Karam, directed by Simon Godwin; Arthur Miller's The Price directed by Terry Kinney; Love, Love, Love by Mike Bartlett, directed by Michael Mayer; If I Forget by Steven Levenson and Napoli, Brooklyn by Meghan Kennedy. The 2016-2017 Roundabout Underground season includes Kingdom Come, a new play by Jenny Rachel Weiner.
