Tony Roberts, Lois Smith and David Strathairn will read short fiction in "Selected Shorts," a live version of the renowned National Public Radio show of the same name, on Tuesday, September 19, 7:30 p.m., at Westport Country Playhouse in Connecticut.

Presented by Arts in the House, a co-presentation between the Westport Arts Center and Westport Country Playhouse, the program will be taped for future NPR broadcast.  WSHU Public Radio is the media sponsor for the event.

Tony Roberts will read "Sorry Fugu" by T. C. Boyle; Lois Smith will lend her voice to "A Mouthful of Cut Glass" by Tessa Hadley; and David Strathairn will bring to life "The Palmist" by Andrew Lam.

Roberts has appeared on Broadway in 23 plays and musicals and has been nominated twice for the Tony Award. He starred in both the recent and original productions of Barefoot in the Park, as well as in How Now, Dow Jones, Play It Again, Dam, Absurd Person Singular, Sugar, They're Playing Our Song, Jerome Robbins' Broadway, The Sisters Rosensweig, Victor/Victoria, Cabaret, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife and more. His many films include the Academy Award-winning Annie Hall, Play It Again, Sam, Serpico and Twelve and Holding.

Smith was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and received the Lucille Lortel Award for her lead performance in Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful.  Her other theatre credits include Buried Child and The Grapes of Wrath, for which she received Tony nominations, The Iceman Cometh and Orpheus Descending.  Smith's films include East of Eden, Five Easy Pieces, Fried Green Tomatoes, Minority Report and the recent Hollywoodland. She has appeared on television in films including "The Laramie Project," and on series including "Law & Order."

Strathairn recently starred in Good Night, and Good Luck as Edward R. Murrow, for which he received an Academy Award nomination, and appears in the forthcoming film from Wong Kar Wai, My Blueberry Nights. He has been in numerous other films including Silkwood, The River Wild, L.A. Confidential, Missing in American and The Notorious Bettie Page.  He has performed on and off Broadway in Dance of Death, Hannah and Martin, Rodney's Wife, Salome, Hapgood, The Birthday Party and more.

Now in its 20th season, "Selected Shorts" is produced for radio by Symphony Space and WNYC, New York Public Radio.  The award-winning program is heard locally on Saturdays at 3 p.m. on WSHU (FM 91.1).
