Richard Gerst, a New York emerging photo-director, is debuting his first fashion film, "Poena Luxuria" today at GQ Italia online. Typical of Gerst's work, the provocative film has been enthusiastically received in Europe, and is premiered by Italian fashion stylist Stefano Guerrini. The film also serves as part of Gerst's thesis for completion of the MPS Fashion Photography program at the School of Visual Arts, from which he recently graduated.

"Poena Luxuria," the "Punishment of Luxury," features the Fall '13 menswear collection by American designer Marlon Gobel, and was inspired by the short story by Michael Carson. The film includes accessories from Hunter, Robert Marc, DSquared, and Erica M, and was styled by Joshua Liebman.

Film Synopsis:

Sometime in the future, in a dictatorial world, allowing oneself to indulge in personal luxuries such as wearing luxurious fashion is punishable by arrest or even execution.

A man is caught wearing the luxurious Fall-Winter '13 collection by Marlon Gobel. The arresting officer reminds him of something he had long forgotten: PASSION. He suddenly realizes he has a choice. Will he retreat to an emotionless subordinate existence, or will he become a rebel icon, embracing passion and luxury as his own?

The film stars Bart Grzybowski & Wilhelmina Hardisty (Ford Model Management, New York), with cinematography by Jendra Jarnagin.
