In Ridgetop, South Carolina, 1906, Mirandy is determined to catch Brother Wind. It's the best bet to win the cake walk, but he eludes all the tricks that her friends advise. This adaptation of Patricia McKissack's award-winning book (Caldecott Medal and Coretta Scott King Award for Illustrators) is a cultural celebration that is full of lively song and dance. Mirandy and Brother Wind is the final production in RLT's series, "Connecting Theatre to 20th Century African American Experiences." This is an area premiere.

On Sunday, October 19th at 4:00 p.m., RLT will present a free preview of the show and a dance workshop at the Hayti Heritage Center in Durham. The workshop will be offered by director and choreographer, L.D. Burris. A longtime member of Chuck Davis' African American Dance Ensemble, Mr. Burris recently directed RLT's Hairspray. About that production, The News and Observer commented, "The talent and creativity displayed here completely changes the expectation of what community theaters can offer. There's certainly nothing 'little' about RLT anymore."

Mr. Burris is choreographing Mirandy and Brother Wind, and Linda O'Day Young, Youth Theatre and Education Director, directs. Tim Smith, recently seen as the Bus and the Dryer in RLT's Caroline, or Change, is the music director.

Tickets for all performances can be purchased by calling the box office (919)-821-3111, Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00 p.m., or by visiting the theatre's website at www.raleighlittletheatre.org. Mirandy and Brother Wind runs from October 31 through November 16, 2014. Evening shows (Thursday and Friday) are at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. Raleigh Little Theatre is located at 301 Pogue St., Raleigh, N.C. 27607, adjacent to the Raleigh Rose Garden.
