Stephen Belber's A Small, Melodramatic Story opened at the LAByrinth Theater Company on October 24th. The play runs through November 5th.
This production marks the first play of LAByrinth's 15th Anniversary Season. The cast includes Carlo Alban, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Lee Sellars, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. They are directed by Lucie Tiberghien. The LAByrinth Theater Company is in residence at The Public Theatre (425 Lafayette Street) and A Small, Melodramatic Story is playing at the Shiva Theatre.
The play "takes place in Washington D.C., where a widow named O is trying to figure out whether life is worth re-engaging with. In her path are the 1968 riots, the first Gulf War, the Freedom of Information Act and herself. There's also an archivist named Keith, a cop named Perry and a kid named Cleo. And finally there's the question of just how much about anything do we really need to know," as the show is described in press notes.
