Acceptance of differences is the theme of this musical for young audiences. It tells the story of Melvin, a refugee pelican who is seeking a new community to join. In the course of his quest, he encounters a fast-talking crab named Loquacious T. Crabb who befriends him, and a flock of pelicans who do not. Melvin is very different from the flock: he looks different; he talks differently; he fishes, swims and nests differently. Because of this, Melvin is ridiculed by the other pelicans and refused admittance to their flock. However, Melvin's generous action at the end of the play changes the flock's attitude toward him, and he is accepted as a respected and valued member of the community.

PDP's Community Focus Program Partner for this production will be Community Toolbox. They will be sharing the spotlight to promote and fund raise for this worthy organization. Community Toolbox mission is to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of homeowners in need.

Community Toolbox believes that everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy home. People shouldn't be forced to choose between food or mortgage payments and the home repairs necessary to keep them safe and warm. Their focus is to provide small but critical repairs, accessibility modifications and energy efficient upgrades to low income and at-risk homeowners. Their repairs focus on three basic dignities: safety, health and accessibility. They believe in "neighbors helping neighbors," communities rallying together to lend a hand and help one and other in times of need.
