WWD reported that the John Galliano master class at Parsons The New School for Design has been canceled. The controversial designer who was fired from Dior in 2011 for saying anti-semitic remarks has been trying to remake his image. Earlier this year, Galliano was invited to spend time working at Oscar de la Renta's studio in New York. But the class announcement was received with protests and petitions from the students.

The school's statement downplayed that the public reaction had anything to do with the cancellation. "An important element of the planned workshop with John Galliano was a candid conversation about the connection between his professional work and his actions in the world at large," it stated. "Unfortunately, we could not reach consensus with Mr. Galliano on the conditions of this conversation, and the program could not move forward."
