Page 73 Productions Reveals 2014 P73 Playwriting Fellow & Interstate 73 Writers Group

Page 73 Productions, the Off-Broadway company dedicated to producing and developing works by early-career playwrights, has awarded Clare Barron the 2014 P73 Playwriting Fellowship.

Page 73 also has named playwrights Jon Caren, Mashuq Deen, Sarah Gancher, Nick Gandiello, Kevin Kautzman, Janine Nabers, Rebecca Schlossberg, and Emily Schwend members of the 2014 Interstate 73 Writers Group.

The projects that she plans to develop for her fellowship year combine breathtaking theatricality with a remarkably detailed recreation of everyday life."

Jones and Richelli added: "We are also overjoyed to welcome the eight talented members of the 2014 Interstate 73 Writers Group. We look forward to developing all of their projects over the course of the year."

The P73 Playwriting Fellowship, Page 73's most prestigious development program, provides a yearlong artistic home and comprehensive support for one early-career writer to develop one or more new plays. Each Fellow receives an honorarium of $10,000, and an additional $10,000 in development support from Page 73, which can be personalized to support the Fellow's proposed projects and can include such expenses as research, workshop and reading presentations, and fees for collaborating artists. Each Fellow works with Page 73 on at least one public presentation of a new play.

Claire Barron will work on several projects during her Fellowship year, including developing a new play about puberty and teenage ambition and experimenting with choreographing a ballet for her play DIRTY CRUSTY. She will also attend Page 73's annual Summer Residency at Yale. Previous P73 Playwriting Fellows include Obie Award winner Kirsten Greenidge, Pulitzer Prize recipient and Tony Award winner Quiara Alegría Hudes, Jason Grote, Krista Knight, Tommy Smith, Obie Award winner Heidi Schreck, Eliza Clark, Janine Nabers, Max Posner, and Caroline V. McGraw.

The Interstate 73 Writers Group, now in its 7th year, offers a year of bimonthly meetings where its members share new pages of works-in-progress. Each writer will also receive a public or private reading of a new play over the course of the year.

Hunter directed by Kip Fagan and EDGEWISE by Eliza Clark directed by Trip Cullman and co-produced with the Play Company, as well as the New York premieres of 1001 by Jason Grote, directed by Ethan McSweeney (Time Out New York - Top 10) and LIDLESS by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig, directed by Tea Alagic. The company received the League of Professional Theatre Women's 2008 Lucille Lortel Award for "innovative and creative work dedicated to the emerging dramatist."
