Opera Theater of Connecticut, the state's oldest professional opera company, welcomes an audience for its 15th Amici Vocal Competition today, May 12, 2012. Come hear some of the state's finest young opera singers in the intimate setting of the Andrews Memorial Theater, 54 East Main Street in Clinton, CT.

This competition, hosted by the Amici, Opera Theater's volunteer support group, is the only vocal competition in the state specifically for Connecticut singers and students.

Two groups of singers will be heard. Student Singers are scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Young Professionals from 1:50 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. An awards ceremony and brief reception follow, giving the audience a chance to meet and congratulate their favorite singers.

Monetary prizes are awarded in each division and winning singers are often given performance opportunities in Opera Theater Productions and concerts.

Judges for this year's competition are Alan Mann, Artistic Director of Opera Theater of Connecticut, Shawn Marie Jeffrey, Artist Manager at ADA Artist Management and Representation, and Rene de la Garza, Artistic Director of Opera Providence, Lecturer in Music at University of Rhode Island, and Director of URI Opera Workshop.

Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission or $4 for seniors and students, and are good for all, or any part of, the day.

For more information and directions to the theater, visit www.operatheater-ct.org or call the Opera Theater of Connecticut office at 860-669-8999.
