Corkscrew Theater Festival, currently soliciting submissions, is a brand-new festival to be held in New York City from August 7th to September 3rd at Paradise Factory Theater in Manhattan's East Village. Produced by The Brewing Dept. and Fortress Productions, Corkscrew will include five fully realized productions receiving eight performances each, along with four reading slots for work to be heard publicly for the first time.

The festival aims to be particularly supportive to early career artists: there are no fees for applying or participating in the festival, each production will receive 12-20 hours of tech time, and shows will have a full hour to install their sets prior to each performance. We believe in increasing access to production opportunities for a diverse set of artists and in presenting work together so that all mutually benefit.

Corkscrew is not limited in genre, content, or theme - all kinds of theater are welcome. Important criteria for selection include passion, a unique perspective, a key collaborative relationship (i.e. actor/director, director/designer, writer/source material), and a belief in the value of creative development.

A complete application consists of:

1. A draft of a script (if not 100% complete, please describe the full scope of the project)

2. Lead artist bios

3. One or more work samples (photos, audio, or video)

4. Four short answers accessible on application form

Visit thebrewingdept.org to apply! Applications will be accepted through February 10th, 2017; applicants will then be notified February 20th, 2017.

The Brewing Dept. is a nonprofit theatre collective formed to foster a supportive community dedicated to giving projects a substantive developmental process in order for artists to create their best work.
