Art lovers visiting Boston with Smart Destinations have long considered the Museum of Fine Arts a must-see attraction, filled with awe-inspiring galleries and exciting traveling exhibits. This October, Smart Destinations customers will have something extra special to enjoy in their visit to the MFA: the brand new "John Singer Sargent Watercolors" exhibit.

"John Singer Sargent Watercolors" combines holdings of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Brooklyn Museum to create an unprecedented collection of this artist's finest watercolor works. Sargent has long been recognized as a virtuoso of watercolor painting, with his "bold and experimental approach" to color, form, and lighting. The watercolor pieces are complemented by a few select oil paintings in a comprehensive exhibition of Sargent's 20th century transition from a commission-driven artist to one of America's most famous painters of "landscape, labor, and leisure."

The more than 90 works in this collection represent Sargent's prolific production of art between 1902 and 1911, a period in the artist's life that many have called the "height of his artistic powers." Each of the pieces in this collection was acquired by either the Museum of Fine Arts or the Brooklyn Museum during the artist's lifetime, thereby allowing this exhibit to represent not only a retrospective of Sargent's most impressive period, but of the place that his work has held in the modern art world as well.

"The John Singer Sargent Watercolors exhibit is an incredible collection of inspiring work," said Judy Gauthier, Regional Director with Smart Destinations. "We're so delighted that our customers can enjoy this experience as part of their exploration of the arts scene in Boston. We've even developed a special pass to make their visit to the MFA this fall a central part of their budget-friendly vacation."

In honor of this momentous exhibit, Smart Destinations has created a special Go Select Package, the Boston Art Museum Pass. This pass provides admission not only the Museum of Fine Arts itself, but to the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum as well. Fans of Sargent's work will especially appreciate the portrait he painted of Isabella Stewart Gardner, currently on display at the eponymous museum. The "John Singer Sargent Watercolors" exhibit opened on October 13 and will be on display at the Museum of Fine Arts until January 20, 2014.
