Admission is Free for this event

Join MoCCA for this celebration of City of Spies, the new graphic novel from First Second Books! MoCCA Trustee and Papercutz! Editor-in-Chief Jim Salicrup will interview City of Spies writers Susan Kim and Laurence Klavan and illustrator Pascal Dizin about the book, followed by a reception and signing.

Refreshments will be available. Spies and heroes welcome. No Nazis, please.

About City of Spies 1942. The height of World War Two. New York City is crawling with Nazi spies. Over one incredible summer, ten-year-old Evelyn Weiss will grow up, find a new family, and, in the process, save the world.

Critics are calling City of Spies "Tintin directed by Hitchcock" (Kirkus Reviews) and "rip-roaring fun" (Publishers Weekly):

About the creators
Susan Kim has written for more than three dozen children's TV series, including "Wonder Pets!", "Arthur," "Are You Afraid of the Dark?," and "Speed Racer," and has been nominated for both the Emmy and Writers Guild award four times. She has also written and produced documentaries for PBS, National Geographic, HBO and AMC. Her stage plays have been produced in LA and NYC and are published by Dramatists Play Service and Smith & Krauss. She co-wrote the non-fiction book, "Flow: The Cultural Story of Menstruation" (St. Martins Griffin) with Elissa Stein. "City of Spies" is her first graphic novel.

Laurence Klavan wrote the novels "The Cutting Room" and "The Shooting Script," both published by Ballantine Books. He won the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for the novel, "Mrs. White," co-written under a pseudonym. He received two Drama Desk nominations for the book and lyrics of the musical, "Bed and Sofa," which was produced by the Vineyard Theater in New York. His short work has been published in The Alaska Quarterly, Conjunctions, The Literary Review, Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, and elsewhere. This is his first graphic novel, as well. His website is LaurenceKlavan.com.

PASCAL DIZIN studied cartooning at the School of Visual Arts, where on graduating he received the Rhodes Family Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cartooning. He continues to draw comics and you can find him on the web at dizin-art.com. "City of Spies" is his first book.

MoCCA Thursdays are made possible in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council. Additional support comes from and the members of MoCCA.
