Allers' script is based on Khalil Gibran's best-selling novel, originally published in 1923. The Prophet is a book of 26 prose poetry essays written in English and has been translated into more than 40 languages.

Though Allers is directing the overall story arc, the chapters will each be led by animation directors from around the globe, including: Tomm Moore, Joan Gratz, Bill Plympton, Nina Paley, Joann Sfar, Paul and Gaetan Brizzi, Michal Socha and Mohammed Harib.

Allers directed Disney's The Lion King and Open Season and has also done work on Disney's Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.
