Not all actors perform on stage or in front of a camera. Sometimes all it takes is a mic. Voice Over work offers many opportunities, but good training is essential. Leonard Dozier, a SAG-AFTRA actor and voice actor with 20 years' experience, will again be offering his highly sought after workshop on Voice Over work, in Harrisburg.

The one-day workshop will cover the basics of voice acting, technique, and vocal preparation; careers; the business of voice acting-including creating work opportunities and producing your demo-and putting your voice and skills to the test.

"We'll be recording real scripts on the spot and simulating auditions," said Dozier, an Addy Award-wining voice actor. "You'll receive a copy of your work."

The workshop will take place today, August 29, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at Open Stage of Harrisburg, 223 Walnut Street, downtown Harrisburg. This is the fourth such workshop Dozier is giving in the capital city.

"Voice over work is a great way to make supplemental money while also expanding one's communication skills," he said. "It is also very much a home-based business now."

The key, Dozier added, is getting the type of training that dispels the myths--that you need a great voice and an agent, for example-and laying out a clear path for entry into the world of commercials, audiobooks, animation, documentaries, and interactive media."

Dozier, a frequent performer in Open Stage's theater productions, is also a principal actor-alongside Lea Michele, Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi, Kelsey Grammar, and Patrick Stewart--in the animated movie "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return." He also appears in the film "Turning Point" and the forthcoming (2016) apocalyptic thriller, "Phaesporia."

Dozier is the official voice for Boomtown Casino and the spokesperson for CollisionMax. Other voice credits include American Idol Ruben Studdard's national promo for his album "Love Is." Dozier is also the voice of Centerlight Healthcare, the NCAA Recyclemania Campaign for Coca-Cola, and the film "Apostle of Freedom."
