Lakewood Cultural Center and Performance Now Theatre Company present "Once Upon a Mattress" Feb. 8 - 24 at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Parkway (Wadsworth and Alameda). Performances are 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays ; 2 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays Senior, student, child and group discounts available. Ample, free on-site parking.

If you thought you knew the story of "The Princess and The Pea," you're in for a surprise. While the king has been cursed into silence, the evil and scheming queen rules the kingdom. She has declared that no one can marry until the prince finds a wife of royal heritage. Despite a final test of his fiancé's bloodline, the townsfolk have their own scheme to ensure that everyone lives happily ever after.

"Once Upon a Mattress" is one of the world's most enduring musicals brimming with whimsical and touching songs that include "Shy," "Spanish Panic," "In a Little While," and "The Swamps of Home."

The cast includes Carla Kaiser Cotrc as the queen, Craig Ross as the king, Sarah Grover as Winnifred, Zach Stailey as Prince Dauntless, Carolyn Lohr as Lady Larkin, Andy Sievers as Sir Harry, Matt Maxwell as the Wizard, Josh Rigo as the Jester and Adam Luhrs as the Minstrel.

The 2012-2013 Lakewood Cultural Center Presents season is generously supported by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), with appreciation to the citizens of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, Sheraton Denver West and the Denver Post Community, improving and enriching the lives of those in our community.
