Hubbard Street Dance Chicago returns to The Joyce Theater with the signature athletic and innovative energy and technique that has contributed to its reputation as one of the country's leading contemporary dance companies. This Joyce season will consist of two programs, featuring works by some of the most important artists on the international scene.

Program A

Untouched, the first piece set on this company by rising-star choreographer Aszure Barton, is the result of her personal interactions with each original cast member. Together they developed distinct and individual environments which are introduced and explored throughout the work.

Recall, a Joyce-commissioned work for six dancers by former Hubbard Street dancer Robyn Mineko Williams, is an homage in movement to the '80s and early '90s, juxtaposed with dance movements of today. Williams collaborated with musicians Chromatics and Chris Menth (and mixed the music herself) to create a beat-driven score that emphasizes the represented eras.

The brief, yet fervent Pacopepepluto, by Alejandro Cerrudo, features solo dances by three men, set to a score of Dean Martin hits from the 50's and 60's.

Sharon Eyal and Gaï Behar's Too Beaucoup is an ensemble work with a soundtrack designed by the choreographers (and Ori Lichtik) to music by such varied artists as Gang of Four, Depeche Mode, Ivan Pavlov (COH), Leonard Cohen, Cole Porter and Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers.

Program B

Mats Ek's Casi-Casa is a 40-minute composite of two earlier works by the choreographer, one of Europe's most respected and influential: Appartement (The Apartment, 2000) and Fluke (2002), plus original choreography. Created in 2009 for Danza Contemporanea de Cuba (who presented its U.S. premiere on The Joyce stage that same year), the piece is set to a score by the Swedish band Fleshquartet that features a diverse range of styles including pop, contemporary and classic.

Three to Max, a piece created exclusively for the company by Israel's Batsheva Dance Company Artistic Director Ohad Naharin, includes re-imagined selections from two recent works created by Naharin for Batsheva: Three (2005) and Max (2007).
