Alan Bennett, the award-winning author of the critically acclaimed THE HISTORY BOYS, will appear on Theater Talk this Friday, April 28. Theater Talk, hosted by Michael Riedel and Susan Haskins, airs Friday night (early Saturday morning) at 12:30 AM on WNET, PBS Channel 13.

THE HISTORY BOYS opened to rave reviews on Broadway on Sunday, April 23 at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street). The play originally opened May 18, 2004 at The National Theatre of Great Britain, where it won the Olivier, Evening Standard and London Critics Circle Awards for Best Play.

THE HISTORY BOYS has also been nominated for three Drama League Awards, including Distinguished Production of a Play, Distinguished Performance (Richard Griffiths) and Distinguished Ensemble (the entire cast), and four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding Broadway Play, Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play (Richard Griffiths), Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play (Frances de la Tour) and Outstanding Direction of a Play (Nick Hytner).

THE HISTORY BOYS is the thrilling comedy of eight bright, funny students trying to get into colleges and the year that influenced the rest of their lives. Guiding them are a maverick English teacher, a headmaster obsessed with results and a strong-willed history teacher resistant to change. A very funny and deeply moving play, THE HISTORY BOYS is about staff-room rivalry, adolescent anarchy and the role of education in our lives.

The original National Theatre cast of THE HISTORY BOYS appear in the Broadway production. The boys are played by Samuel Anderson (Crowther), Samuel Barnett (Posner), Dominic Cooper (Dakin), James Corden (Timms), Sacha Dhawan (Akthar), Andrew Knott (Lockwood), Jamie Parker (Scripps) and Russell Tovey (Rudge). The teachers are played by Frances de la Tour (Mrs. Lintott), Richard Griffiths (Hector), Clive Merrison (Headmaster) and Stephen Campbell Moore (Irwin). Other roles are played by Bill Buell (TV Director), LeRoy McClain (Company), Pippa Pearthree (Make-up Lady), Alex Tonetta (Company) and Jeffrey Withers (Company).

THE HISTORY BOYS features scenic and costume design by Bob Crowley, lighting by Mark Henderson, sound design by Colin Pink, music by Richard Sisson and video direction by Ben Taylor.
